The feeling when you need to change phone provider because the old one starts to hike up in price so much it doesn't make any sense to pay that much.

Why wont phone companies reward long time clients instead of only giving perks to new ones? I will bet you that if they focused on old clients instead of non-existing new ones that they need to keep scalping of other phone companies, they would be selected more often than not.

@cynblogger
Thank you, I will check that one out. (:

This sounds like this "loaded potato soup" we have been making lately. :D Could try cauliflower in it, if we can find some cheap ones (probably frozen). Thanks for the recommendation!

@ChrisCPS
I am a little jealous of people who have inherited cook books. As a shunned black sheep, I didn't get anything from my Karelian granma (except maybe that sweet sweet generational trauma) :P

To be real - I am happy for you, and I will check those books if our library would have them! :D I really appreciate the recommendation from your family. <3

Considering on visiting the local library and borrowing some old cookbooks and copying a bunch of recepies to a recepie book of my own. I will focus on any book that has actual explanation for each technique used, and anything that aims to provide instructions to actually cheap and tasty foods.

Too many cookbooks say they are cheap and then have ingredients that cost an arm and a leg. O.o

What is the cheapest, and tastiest food you know that is IBS friendly (not crazy on beans, or lentils, or greens)? Our income took a nose dive for next...many months, and I need to get creative. (:

Soups, and food that makes at least a few meals that wont have massive texture changes preferred! Also filling, I have trouble feeling full. (^_^)*

I understand why some creators, including myself, don't leave #YouTube. However it's *vital* now more than ever to also make yourself a #PeerTube server. You need an accurate archive of your work that YOU control, even if no one watches it there. youtube.com/watch?v=MrwJgDHJJoE

It’s been six years since the first reported case of SARSCov2.

It’s never too late to wear a mask.

It’s never too late to clean the air.

Every infection avoided or delayed is a win for long term health.

We can drastically reduce transmission if everyone does their part.

In the very first talks I was ever giving in tech (on "learning debt") I made this point a few times: we always frame "this org doesn't have a learning culture" as a loss for juniors. But it's *also a loss for seniors.* It's a loss for the interactions that move collaboration forward in interesting ways. Not honoring, hearing from, and creating space for juniors means we're probably doing a bad job of allowing for divergence and creativity.

just called ai "the mediocrity machine" in a meeting and the tech bro is shaking a finger at me and twitching so hard he can't even plug what's happening into the machine so it can tell him how to respond

I didn't realize that Swiss trains apparently also adhere to the "schedule for 80% of capacity rule".

Apparently trains in Switzerland go around 80% of the top speed possible on the track. The 20% overhead is used to make up time in the case of delays.

The thinking is: stable and predictable operation is more important than going faster. Because the cost of passengers regularly missing layovers is much higher than the benefits of trains being 20% faster.

Codsworth Junior (in reference to Fallout videogame where there is a robot with that name that survived the nukes. It is essentially a ball shaped, floating, multi-armed butler that cooks, cleans, and also kills enemies on command.) (:

Alternatively - Steve is always an endearing name for a robot.

Many of you in IT should find this flowchart very helpful.

Just a photo of a box on the floor and nothing else.

(Be mindful of your toes around it, though)

Photo of a flipped chewy.com box on the middle of the floor with three mysterious white feline paws underneath. No cat can be seen (just some kitty peets)

@Plaidbaron
That sounds nice. (:

I am trying to look into if there are any other options around here just in case I have overlooked things... Maybe some people do do that and I just never knew that. I've never had this much broken tech etc. stuff to recycle so it hasn't been such an issue.

2025-11-30

@Plaidbaron
Not that I know of. We have pretty good recycling systems so there's not a lot of individuals who do that. Problem then is that getting those things to recycling may cost you, especially if you are disabled like us and need to pay for transport.

Apparently there are free dump days, but if the dump spot is too far away, I still wont be able to get the items there to be recycled...

2025-11-30

@nihkeys
I got to try to see if that would be somewhere close by. I wont be able to haul the pile to it if it is far (the microwave is a damn brick). We do also have a bunch of old nail polish, batteries, and light bulbs to sort out.

Having practically zero bonus energy really sucks. I wish you could just...call someone and they would come to get them from you for free.

John Naughton stresses we should never forget that the development of Artificial Intelligence (so-called), has involved 'possible by the largest case of corporate theft in history.. [Big tech] was content just to mine our time & attention, but now it has moved on to appropriating the intellectual property of creative artists on a global scale'!

The theft of copyright(s) has a long history, but normally its been stolen *from* corporations, not *by* them!
