@decryption @huwr personally, i hope it finds them well

@ryanbooker last time i checked on this, this was region specific, and US locale pronounces it correctly.

how are people opting to play with tahoe?

@PeteGoldsmith yeah. i can see how they came to the decision to do this, but i think between this and the "glass everywhere” approach to icons it’s overplaying their hand.

you can have any aesthetic, so long as it's specifically a glass squircle aesthetic.

@PeteGoldsmith not really, i'm basing this off of seeing the icons on my own phone. keep in mind that i’m also talking about the app icons, not the overall design, though i expect that won't be picked up by many big companies either.

prediction about the new glass icon stuff in variousOS 26: a bunch of people will embrace it at first. big companies will opt out because it fucks with their brand. eventually indies will realise that it's just a fancier version of the gloss effects in the iPhoneOS days and they'll opt out too. eventually it'll be just apple's apps using it.

@marcedwards i watched a design session today and for the first three minutes my brain was screaming that the presenter was ai generated. proportions were being thrown off by an oversized jacket.

@marcedwards oh for sure

apple is nothing if hyper focused on the production quality. there are honestly very few flaws, particularly in the keynote.

@marcedwards ten bucks says they took a HDRi of the location, shot as normal. track the image and render out a 3D model of a vision pro doing the same move away from a table surface. composite the result into the final image.

@BenRiceM it looks so much worse when everything is bubbly, but the highlights aren’t baked in sadly, so i can’t really finesse them

@aaron_pearce hahaha

i watch the icons go and think about how much fun they're having. i'd rather that than dealing with the abyss that is radar.

@aaron_pearce my favourite is when you open a folder in the app library, then swipe back to your curated pages, the icons from the folder fly across screen as they return to some arbitrary point in space.

that said, i'd rather build this in 3D, then have the 3D elements rendered as glass than this live emboss filter. it looks reasonable small (but blurry on some icons like photos) but it's fucking amateur on big shit like this. i would _never_ use this as gifwrapped’s logo, and it will never appear on gifwrapped's marketing.

i actually like the lack of specular highlights on the ribbon. i think it's worth considering some elements not having that because it's a LOT

this is an improvement for sure. separating the sections and getting rid of hard corners is a big win, bow is still a little odd and it might all benefit from an actual redesign of the shapes, but i'd ship this if it came to it.

oh boy, i got a long road ahead to make things play nice with iOS 26 without breaking previous versions.

i don't _love_ how this has turned out. it looks… inflated. might need to do some kind of icon refurb with this style in mind.

the gifwrapped icon in apple’s new icon composer

@TeeeBear there’s a bit in the keynote, but the state of the union is where it really gets weird

@BenRiceM interesting that they overlap here. in notification center, the glass tangles vanish behind overlapping ones and it's honestly weird AF
