Margot Friedländer hat diese Bürde lange getragen. Und wir sind es nicht nur ihr schuldig, dieses Erinnern fortzusetzen. Die Schrecken von Krieg, Holocaust und Naziterror nicht verblassen zu lassen. Gerade jetzt, gerade heute, wo sich der Horizont wieder zu verdunkeln droht, müssen wir aufstehen und mahnen.

Am Tag zuvor haben wir nicht nur das Kriegsende vor 80 Jahren als "Tag der Befreiung" begangen - der 8. Mai war auch der Tag, an dem das Ghetto, das Vernichtungslager Theresienstadt befreit wurde. Aus dem auch Margot Friedländer befreit wurde. Ihre Familie, ihre ganze Familie war ihr da längst von den Nazis entrissen worden. Verständlich, dass sie im Land der Täter nicht bleiben konnte. Und doch kehrte sie zurück. Um zu erinnern. Um UNS zu erinnern.

"Ich bin hier, euch zu bitten, dass ihr die Zeitzeugen seid, die wir nicht mehr lange sein können."

Dieser Appell, die Schrecken von Holocaust und Naziterror auch dann nicht verblassen zu lassen, wenn die, die beides erlebt und überlebt haben, die Kraft zum Weitermachen verlässt, stammt von Margot Friedländer. Die gestern die Kraft zum Weitermachen verlassen hat.

4. Most metal detector looting pits on a tourist site like this tend to represent aluminium pull tabs. Because the machines can't tell silver and aluminium apart.

5. The site has a healthy cover of lawn turf thanks to a century of landscape care. This tends to make prehistoric metalwork undetectable, because it is at a greater depth.

6. The barrow is impervious to metal detector looting. You need a backhoe and a week's work to loot that thing.

A few corrections, partly caused by the fact that the same name is used for the barrow and for the surrounding cemetery.

1. Most or all of the metal detector pits are on the flat ground around the barrow.

2. The site is by far not the largest cemetery in Sweden. The barrow is one of the largest barrows.

3. What is unexcavated here is the barrow, not the site in general.

Antiquarian Crime: Swedens largest burial mound, #Anundshög, dating back at least to the Viking Age (if not longer) has been subjected to comprehensive grave looting.

The site has not been excavated archaeologically yet.
