@BM24 he loved it.but more importantly i love the fact that he obviously never told anyone or bragged about it, writing it in every available bio/ marketing text. which now has become standard sort of. (I listened to a lot of metheny lately after your zoller post and it came to my mind that metheny is probably one of the very few musicians who really authentically worked in both domains: super cheesy, almost kenny g. like major chord suites (but the pmg albums are so well played) and free stuff)
@BM24 that brötzmann/doldinger video (totally did not notice his passing) created some turmoil in my little frankfurt hood. bertram told me that he also played with brötzmann once and there was an equal discussion among his peers back then. at least he found an old friend again through the comment section, daniel franqe, who also played with brötzmann back then (and is a scholar of heinz klaus metzger). we agreed that the discussion is ongoing since 1967 and the way they treat brötzmann is..well
@BM24 (bertram ritters mother, a painter, was an intimate friend of peter brötzmann, as she told me during our gig in darmstadt. btw bertram also played with alfred harth, whos recording "just music" is no. 2 in the ecm cataloque. we dedicated our duo album to brötzmann).
@BM24 as said: I agree that brötzmann is an epochal player (and one of the few german improvisers of strong international reputation)
@BM24 this is clear. but I said for the sake of the aesthetic of the argument.
@BM24 but it is really interesting how all the arguments are on the table already in 1967...(including mine)
@BM24 if I would start to channel my inner heretic I would say: doldinger as well as brötzmann just imitate early (60) and late (67) coltrane, just as germans copied first the french court (1730) and later the british colonies (1870). but then again its brötzmann who clearly belongs to the most important artist ever in this regard...

@BM24 oh thanks for mentioning. you know, when bertram and I played in darmstadt, wuchners wife (very nice person) also attended the concert. he just recently passed and I wanted to listen to more of his music, so this is a perfect starting point.
@BM24 this is a great find. bob degen still lives in frankfurt. I saw him perform last year. he is really one of the great northern american pianists like paul bley - but chose to reside here (a bit like keith jarrett's brother chris jarrett). away from bigger fame and press. but then, if you start to listen to him it becomes evident, that he is a pioneer. still, frankfurt had one of europe's mist vivid jazz scenes (1945-1990). and bob did a lot for that.
rerelease on i tunes, qubuz and tidal: my first three solo recordings:
1.) 2000 ensemble modern young composers contribution (I was 20)

Illuminations by Evrard d'Espinque for a circa 1480 French translation of Bartholomaeus Anglicus' 13th-century De Proprietatibus Rerum. More marvellous maps from the manuscript here: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/despinque-anglicus-illuminations
@BM24 what a great recording! YT is a treasure once again. thanks for sharing. (love the free cecil style approach on the guitar meeting some strong bop attack that reminds me of Karl Ratzer (that k&k meets roma heritage) and a "monk" spirit. There is a lot said for a 65 album!!!! btw Metheny met Zoller as a 17(?) year old. As it is told he convinced him to become a musician (so that must have been around 1969/70)
@BM24 oh, I missed the YT link 🙈🙏heading straight to my I tunes. Give me some time...
