I love Douglas Adams. I was really having a blast reading his considerations about what people or characters we consider heroes.

@lydiaconwell

Wish I had this power! Unfortunately I get easily bothered when the music is not clear enough 😓

I loved these, such as Bishy Barnaby🐞

These are a set of hand-painted Delft tiles by artist Paul Bommer, featuring various animals with their names in Norfolk dialect.

The tiles are painted in the traditional blue-and-white Delft style.

Each animal is labelled with its dialect name, such as "Hodmadod" for a snail, "Puddock" for a frog, and "Bishy Barnaby" for a ladybug.

Hodmadod = snail
Harnser = crane
Bandy = hare
Puddock = toad
Hedge Betty = sparrow
Tonamy Jones = pig
Flitter mouse = bat
Bishy bar = lady bird
Jumping Jacob = frog

Was Daft Punk Having a Laugh When They Chose the Tempo of HBFS?

A neat reflection over the tempo choice for this song.

I like to think this was intentional 😉

What do you think?

Iconic rock band officially breaks up after chaotic final concert.

I used to listen to their music when I was a kid.
Really sorry it had to end this way. Music is about having fun together and enjoying life.

Today I learned that NASA has a collection of free ebooks that can be downloaded as pdfs or ebub format.

The science books even include a children’s section with fun activites and coloring books!

Arthur Conan Doyle explored men’s mental health through his Sherlock Holmes stories

We never talk enough about people mental health. This made me reflect a bit and i found it to be a beautiful way (among many others) of framing the Sherlock Holmes books.

GOOD NEWS: For the first time in history, RENEWABLE ENERGY has overtaken COAL in global electricity production.

Solar and wind are finally outpacing fossil fuels. This is a TURNING POINT for the planet and for all of us.

Global renewable energy generation surpasses coal for first time
Record solar expansion and steady wind growth driving world’s shift away from fossil fuels in 2025, report finds

Jillian Ambrose
Tue 7 Oct 2025 01.01 CEST

The world’s wind and solar farms have generated more electricity than coal plants for the first time this year, marking a turning point for the global power system, according to research.

A report by the climate thinktank Ember found that in the first six months of 2025, renewable energy outpaced the world’s growing appetite for electricity, leading to a small decline in coal and gas use.

The world generated almost a third more solar power in the first half of the year compared with the same period in 2024, meeting 83% of the global increase in electricity demand. Wind power grew by just over 7%, allowing renewables to displace fossil fuels for the first time.

When I learned to code it wasn’t pretty. I wrote (messy) MATLAB scripts that somehow worked (on my computer only😅) and took hours to run. I had no training, no roadmap — just #science curiosity & a friend who helped me get started.

I founded @pyOpenSci to support researchers like me create #openscience. I get to teach workshops on all things #python #opensource so that others don't have to learn the hard way. 💛

Community makes the impossible feel doable. We go further when we learn together.
