I just recommended an interesting article @pcirr by @maddi_pow, @drcpennington, @kaitclark, and colleagues. It started out as a #RegisteredReport 2 years ago and it is exciting to find out the results!

Incorporating #OpenResearch practices (preregistration) into the #undergraduate #curriculum increases understanding, but doesn't change attitudes toward questionable research practices (QRPs)

My recommendation and the review history: doi.org/10.24072/pci.rr.100437
The article: osf.io/k2fse

My book📚, “A Student’s Guide to Open Science: Using the Replication Crisis to Reform Psychology” is available to pre-order now! (tinyurl.com/59zk7m5y; tinyurl.com/2cukuy9v). A thread of why this book is important to both the field and me! 🧵

Is it OK to spend 12 months to get a visa to attend a 3-day conference?

My piece in Science (@sciencemagazine) sheds light on this issue many scholars from institutionally discriminated countries experience on a regular basis

Spoiler: 12 months, 900$, get rejected

@mzloteanu convos about American sports would sure beat the tired “what brought you over here” and “how does the UK compare to the US” 😩

I am so, so bored of the default small talk about America that people (in the UK) initiate with me upon hearing my accent. I can’t ride a taxi or chat with someone in a shop without being asked about America. After 8.5 years in the UK, I’m just so tired of the same repetitive conversations. I know people are well-intentioned, but please consider how boring it must be for an immigrant to be constantly asked about their home country. 😩

4 lectureships in #neuroscience in Bristol, UK. (2 junior, 2 senior).

Offers £39,745 - £68,823. (Not a typo, unfortunately.)

Not wanting to single out Bristol here, note all UK universities offer these ridiculously low salaries. The expectation, I can only guess, is that your partner with a higher salary subsidises the university via the institution of marriage, or you are independently wealthy, or choose not to have a family.

@DrVeronikaCH why did you resign? I’ve recently joined their editorial board but am already frustrated. There’s someone I want to invite as a reviewer whose email is incorrect in their system. I’ve been emailing people for weeks trying to get this resolved with no success…

Today we're launching Registered Reports Community Feedback - a site to better understand authors' and reviewers' experience of the Registered Reports peer review process:

registeredreports.cardiff.ac.u

The broad goal is to collect data regarding how well various aspects of the Registered Reports process are implemented across academic journals.

Five hundred men sacked for refusing to ever cross a picket line
The voices down the ages warning "never cross a picket line"
You must never cross a picket line
Two years gone by but still they never ever cross a picket line
With their wives and children they stand together, never cross a picket line
You must never cross a picket line

Friends don’t let friends cross picket lines

I designed the 12-bit rainbow palette for use on grid.iamkate.com. It consists of twelve colours chosen with consideration for how we perceive hue, chroma, and luminance. The palette uses a 12-bit colour depth, so each colour requires only four characters when specified as a hexadecimal colour code in a CSS or SVG file. For more details, see iamkate.com/data/12-bit-rainbo

Twelve bands of colour ranging from red to purple with smooth changes in perceived brightness

@fishsauce ah I see what you mean. I’ve done a bit of looking but am similarly surprised there’s not more speaking to this. There will be loads on the issues around wealth generation for Black communities more generally, but the links to credit scores are not explicit
