For more than 20 years, @osuosl has been providing critical infrastructure for major FOSS projects. In particular, it hosts Kali Linux ARM build servers and GitLab runners: kali.org/blog/ampere/.

Now they are facing a difficult time and need help to keep going. To learn more, please read the announcement from its director Lance Albertson: osuosl.org/blog/osl-future/

I seen few people complaining that Nethunter 2025.1 isn't in nethunter store.

If this is your case, check that you nethunter store app is up to date.

Else you can download it here :

End of an era!

A quick update to let everyone know that our i386 kernel and images will no longer be released. A process that started in 2003 is now complete for us. The last i386 CPUs appear to have been made in 2007.

@Sempf Would love the contribution! Just let me know and I can hook you up with the team member that manages our docs. Or you can always hit him on our discord where he spends the majority of his time.

@mttaggart Offsec owns kali and the ip. Offsec also employs a number of full time developers for kali. All guidance is business as usual for kali going forward. Heads down prepping for launch of the updated forum, and prepping for the 2024.4 release.

2024-10-17

@Sempf @mttaggart Not recently. I know a fair amount of docs were just updated, but no sort of new overview item.

Interested in doing one? We are happy to publish it with your name.

Otherwise we can let the team know there is demand for something updated.

@cR0w @mttaggart Realistically I think the world of monitized Linux is a bit more complicated. Look at red hat and centos, and even then you are talking infrastructure.

Remember, Backtrack came before offsec, offsec is the monetization of Kali is the best way to look at it. There is ton of value as well in lowering support costs by ensuring the software environment for training works out of the box.

2024-10-17

@mttaggart Well yeah I mean, on kali items I can be helpful. Outside of that, there are better people to address it.

2024-10-17

@mttaggart I would suggest reaching out to offsec about that.

2024-10-16

@mttaggart There might be something on the offsec site in the about section? Not sure. I know when spectrum first invested in 2018 there was press releases then etc.

2024-10-16

@mttaggart Just tag us amigo, always happy to jump in and answer questions. Frankly I am surprised anyone is concerned about it with as I mentioned it’s not really a change considering it’s been PE for a while now.

We are nerds enough that when red dots show up telling us someone tagged us, we typically respond.

2024-10-16

@cR0w @mttaggart Would we?

2024-10-16

@mttaggart Just a reminder - OffSec has been owned by private equity for over 5 years now. I think we have done a pretty damn good job keeping Kali available with no registration, no email needed to download, no telemetrics, no broadcasting on startup, fully free to use, able to access it privately, etc.

Overall, I don't personally see any indication that anything is changing on our front. So doomerism all you want I suppose if its fun, but we have over a decade of proof doing the right thing here with Kali that we intend to continue to build off of.
