@neil ah, I see. I stopped checking them out not because of the DRM (it always seemed like one of the most reasonable users of DRM) but because it apparently costs the libraries more than checking out the physical book, so now I wait for those. So, ultimately an abuse of DRM.

I did recently buy a book through the Kobo store for an indie author who didn't have her books at my library, but mostly my books come from Humble bundle or other DRM-free sources.

@neil none checked out from the library?

@WTL @skinnylatte the post features a wheel of Parmeggiano Reggiano DOP. $1100 for 80lbs is about a 40% discount from buying chunks of it at retail.

@rachel @homelab very cool, bookmarking this one because my home bare metal #kubernetes cluster is up and running and I'm interested in how others are doing this, esp. w/r/t hybrid and continuation of the home goes down.

@WTL @skinnylatte under $5/lb for genuine 24month parmeggiano reggiano? That doesn't sound right.

It costs more than that in Italy.

@wjmaggos @futurebird about 10-15 years ago, I was super hopeful for the #micropayments concept, and if that could be implemented, it would do what you're talking about. The only actual implementation I know of is L the Brave BAT, but that's basically gone nowhere.

@sparklepanic It's really crazy, isn't it? There's flooding just east of #Seattle and the #BayArea is experiencing unusually cold temperatures, yet here we are with clear skys and sun in #Portland!

Atmospheric rivers are crazy.

Wondering if I should do this...

On most platforms, I opt out of using my data for training in the hopes the setting will be honored. But when it comes to the code I have on #GitHub. Well, let's just say it's pretty bad, and maybe allowing it into the training datasets will actually be a net negative for them.

@kev @Tattooed_Mummy @neil @bitwarden pick an app with solid encryption, unlocking requires a hardware key, use it locally, and manage your own database synchronization (Dropbox, NextCloud, USB, whatever). Otherwise, this scenario will get you eventually.

@revk one might sue the party they believe is at fault, and if that party thinks another is fully or partially culpable, they would implead that third party, bringing them into the suit.
A couple caveats:

  1. This is how it works theoretically, but actual practice seldom follows what is taught in school.
  2. This is based in US law
  3. This is simply thinking out loud through the problem and definitely not legal advice

@gwenynen.bsky.social I've had pretty good experience with Moleskine notebooks. I normally live off free notebooks from vendors, and those tend to be the best. I was surprised that my Leuchtturm paper was thin that the ink nearly bled through, but definitely made the reverse side unusable. Liked that notebook otherwise.

The notebooks I do buy are Travelers refills, and that paper is really nice.

#Gandi just "upgraded" me from U2F to E-Mail MFA.

U2F binding was removed. E-Mail MFA was put in place instead.

No advanced warning, no migration period.

Would have gladly upgraded that to #Webauthn had they asked.

Strong signal that the "no bullshit" policy is no more.

E-Mail from Gandi Support:

Dear user,

Gandi is evolving, and so is its security!

Security keys now use a new protocol. Keys registered before September
10, 2019, are no longer compatible and have been deactivated.

Therefore, we have removed your security keys: yubikey from your account.

To maintain a satisfactory level of security, we have enabled MFA via email
for your account.

However, you can re-register them in your administration console, in the
ACCOUNT application.

Please feel free to contact us if needed.

Sincerely,
The Gandi Team
