@danmccullough Maybe he's been taking notes from the Red-eyed Vireos😉

I've only seen one once, very early season on likely a "drop out" morning. It was on the ground along the trail farther ahead. Wish you luck, maybe get the reclining lawn chair out, binocs/camera and your favorite beverage😆

@dillyd @idyll As I recall they have really deep roots. I've tried pulling them out before but didn't get enough, if any of the root to deter them coming back. Don't worry, I literally have acres of them about the place😆

Per the Wiki page they have "Propagative roots" this link and then scroll down to the heading. So you may want to get a rather large root ball to try transplanting.

@danmccullough @donray @stephanie @dillyd When we had both Common and Butterfly Milkweeds in the yard it seemed the Monarch caterpillars preferred Butterfly. Though I've found the caterpillars on Common, Swamp and Butterfly Weed in the area...

Area butterflies seem to like all of them😆

@donray @argentcorvid Have some Osage trees just to the north of me that I walk past almost daily. As I kid I thought their round ball fruit would be great fun until I found out how STICKY they are😆

"Michigan Flora" is a three volume set of books mostly done by Oliver A. Farwell and Edward G. Voss. I have this set but the website has added so much to the info and is so much easier to search and link to😉

@donray @argentcorvid We have a lot of flora and fauna that doesn't like cold weather, including me😆

Figured out how to search through the specimens, didn't have a reason to before. Earliest documented was in Jackson, MI in 1893:

@donray @argentcorvid We have them in Michigan too. I only poked around in the sightings a bit, finding one from 1939 but suspect there are earlier ones than this. You can see the map and info here:

I have one growing maybe 50 yards north of the house, near the garden. Don't know how it got there other than maybe my bringing a seed pod home years ago to ID. They're not uncommon in the area...

@jerzone 😆
Ask me if the glass is half empty or half full and I'll ask you which way is it trending. I have a messed up thought process😉

2025-06-10

@jerzone Angry Volcano😉

2025-06-10

@jerzone Here, like just yesterday that would be Deer. They were only ~50 feet away but all that "green" hides them quite well🙂

@idropyou There seems to be A LOT of people that celebrate birthdays, anniversaries... and think everyone else does too. I'm not one of them🙂‍↔️

2025-06-08

@jerzone You suppose those leaves on its back were green when it started the trek😆

2025-06-08

@idropyou I like it👍

That's a ton of sanding work too. Even with the power tools available nowadays. I was looking at the full images in another window and I'm impressed you got it to look this well. The banister has rustic character now too :ablobcatnod:

@SensitiveSyl Oooo👍
First impression is kinda cloudy sky but wait, those be mountains😆

2025-06-08

@idropyou That looks nice👍

One of my neighbors barn kitties casting a wary eye my way. Was doing some trail work near by...

@jerzone @michaelormsby I took a pair of jeans that fit GOOD. Measured across the waist with them buttoned up. Measured from waist to cuff. Measured from crotch to cuff. Made a note on my shopping list and carry a small tape measure when shopping for them. Size on the sales tag just gets me into the right area to start measuring them for fit😐

I have shoes marked size 10 and 12 that fit good or the same. If I find a pair that fits well, I've had good luck ordering more of the same online. Problem is companies aren't keeping the same styles around long anymore😑
