You would see middle aged people buy a PS2 just so that they could listen to their favourite #Walkmans or to watch their favourite movies. Not to mention the incredible selection of games made that solidified gaming both as an art form and a hobby. In Europe and Asia PS2s are STILL being traded and modded and older bought consoles still function. You just had to be there, no other console has come close. With console hardware sales being announced a lot of people are taking shots at #Sony’s #PS2 absurd numbers of consoles sold. The thing that I need young zoomers to understand is that the #PlayStation had a such a cultural grip on BOTH gaming AND media consumption. (1/2)

I think people need to realise that Nintendo is giant conglomerate no different than any other conglomerate.
They are releasing an underpowered console (with over priced games) which costs more than a base PS5 or Xbox Series because they know people will blindly defend them. (1)

It was affordable, powerful and boasted the better library of games than any of its competitors. It countries that are economically challenged PS2s still reign as kings. People really underestimate how useful and appealing a console that can play games, music, movies and connect to the internet was back in the day and it’s really sad to see 😔. #gaming history should be celebrated not pushed aside to prop up a new console fandom in its place. I remember when Sony announced ,in 2024, the number of PS2s sold and people on social media were jumping the gun to prove that the Switch was more popular. While I don’t care about console numbers, it really put into perspective NA’s ignorance of gaming culture outside of NA. Show any electronic that can play videogames in Europe and it is imminently called a PlayStation, in the 2000s walk into any home at random and you would see a PS2 and in the 2010s you would see a PS2 slim.
