The brutal, daily bombing and murder of innocent civilians, in #Palestine and #Ukraine are signs of a collapsing rules-based world order.

It is not collapsing because of #Russia or #Israel, but because the west, who was supposed to uphold it, chose not to for the simple reason that it was inconvenient.

Today Ukrainians and Palestinians are suffering the consequences. Tomorrow it will be Europeans and Americans.

If you don't stop evil in it's infancy you might not be able to when it grows.

For what it's worth I think Wellnhofer’s position is correct and hopefully the vanguard of a significant cultural shift in free software.

So, re: LLMs and the "jury is out on energy usage", I just want to point out a couple of historical things.

When studies came out linking smoking to increased risk of cancer, the Tobacco industry paid for and produced studies that said "nuh uh".

When Obesity and heart disease rates increased in the United States and the problem was linked to sugar intake, the sugar industry produced studies saying it was fats.

the application of chatGPT into my clinical practice was...problematic.

Can you explain what's happening in this diagram?
This diagram illustrates a nasal endoscopic procedure to access the pituitary gland through the sphenoid sinus, commonly known as a transnasal transsphenoidal endoscopic approach to the pituitary gland. Here's a breakdown of what's happening:

the diagram is of a cystoscopy and pr examination.

I used to feel proud of Britain but now I can only feel sad and not at home in such a nasty, small-minded, racist and ultimately stupid - counter to our own interests - culture.

My apologies to everyone who has come here hoping to be a part of what I once thought was a decent society. Particularly all those now being victimised by the under that nastier than Tory .

I feel ashamed. Haven't voted Labour in years now and can't imagine doing so again.

Google's monopoly power rips off consumers, pollutes our information environment, and destroys the news media. A US judge recently ruled that it is illegal.

Now it's time for @EU_Commission to act!

1 it is not illegal to cross the English Channel

2 They are not immigrants. They are asylum seekers

3 We require a healthy young population to work and pay our increasing pension dividend

4 82% of all claimants are granted asylum

5 Philp is a nationalist scumbag

The decentralised web is live on #Autonomi accessible from Windows, MacOS and Linux! 🥳

Download dweb at the link below (or `cargo install dweb-cli`) and then:

dweb serve

And in another terminal:

dweb open awesome

That opens a website with some of the first perpetual, versioned websites on the #p2p network that is #AutonomiDweb

It includes apps too, but you can view the websites without any more setup. Download v0.9.1 at github.com/happybeing/dweb/rel

Anyone can publish with #dweb

I've posted a Github issue outlining why I'm freaked out at the word "irrevokable" in Mastodon's new TOS IP clause:

New Terms of Service IP clause cannot be terminated or revoked, not even by deleting content

github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i

It's sort of long (sorry), but several people seemed confused what my problem was earlier, so maybe extra detail will help. I include an outline of my "nightmare scenario", and contrast other site TOSes.

I *will* delete my account over this, and I am not joking.

"Reliance on AI systems for brainstorming significantly reduced the diversity of ideas produced, which is a crucial element for creative breakthroughs. The systems tend to converge toward a predictable middle rather than exploring unconventional possibilities at the edges. [...] AI systems are most closely aligned with the values and worldviews of wealthy, English-speaking nations. This inherent bias constrains the diversity of ideas these systems can generate."

Right at the last minute the UK government have added a power to access to your devices and extract information from any online account, on the say so of a senior police officer, in the #crimeandpolicingbill #cpbill

Really incredibly extreme stuff. No judicial oversight, just hand over your device.

Gov_NC63
Secretary Yvette Cooper
To move the following Clause—

Extraction of online information following seizure of electronic devices
(1) Where an electronic device has been lawfully seized, a senior officer may
authorise an enforcement officer to extract information accessible by means
of one or more online accounts which were accessed by means of the device
before it was seized.
(2) A senior officer may give an authorisation under subsection (1) only if satisfied
that there are reasonable grounds to believe that—
(a) the information mentioned in subsection (1) includes information that
is relevant to a reasonable line of enquiry which is being, or is to be
pursued, by an enforcement officer for one or more relevant purposes,
and
(b) it is not reasonably practicable to obtain that information by other means.
