As always, excellent reporting by Tom Philips on the terrifying events unfolding in Brazil. This is a Cold War Era classic Latin American coup, including explicit plans to assassinate Lula and the Vice-President before they could take office, along with Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
If there is one lesson we need to take from the US is that electoral politics are not enough to stop these fascists. We need to pursue all legal pathways, and do so now!

Any honest analysis has to start from the fact that Trumps’ strategy was to double down on ultranationalism, xenophobia, hypermasculinity, and white supremacy (aka fascism), and it worked! It worked because the majority of US American voters chose this. It worked because this is who this country is.

Introduced #PauloFreire to @TheNewSchool undergrads today. It's always amazing to see how his revolutionary work in Pernambuco in the 40s continues to impress young US-Americans today. Makes one think what Brazil could have become if this progressive energy hadn't been crushed by the dictatorship.
