Driven grouse shooting should be banned entirely and our uplands — which are drained and burned in support of one species that rich people shoot in huge numbers — returned to a healthy state that supports our planet. Decades of work to find solutions has failed, so perhaps we should try licensing. But birds of prey will still be killed by gamekeepers in appalling ways, and I'll likely never see a Hen Harrier in the Peak District. rspb.org.uk/whats-happening/ne

@heymarkreeves @jenschuetz The contrast in cultures and adoption of technology is fascinating. As we travel to other cities, through the rural parts domestically, and also internationally, it's remarkable how different people and a place are when technology and advanced capitalism aren't overtly driving the culture, people, or place. Culture plays a large role though, from what we've experienced.

“Because of our dependency on computers and gig workers to do our bidding, social awkwardness, agitation, and timidness have mushroomed while common courtesy and cordial engagement have nosedived. If I order coffee at a café where the barista takes the time to greet me and inquire about my day, it genuinely gives me pause, but in a good way. Because, sadly, that is no longer the norm. The social contract between patron and establishment has been broken.”

@AnthonyBaker @Brilliantcrank @scott That cover is great Ant.

I'm missing the grunge-retro illustrations from your posts Greg. I like this cover, but it feels a little too on the nose/expected? The name is very radio-friendly (a touch generic?) but the look could be pushed way more to stand out and bring in that heavier texture/depth you're great at.

@Brilliantcrank Blueprint. The muted tones have a lovelty matte look to them. As per the name!

Last night’s camp turned out to be a return of our nemesis: heavy wind. We decamped at 1:30am, tent was put away (or the wind was going to take it down), drove to a lower spot by 2am and slept in the front seats (which we’ve done before and know the drill). Sleep was poor, but at least we got some.

I awoke with this sunrise peeking out the window to my left, and we shook it out at the Bonneville Salt Flats rest area (great architecture) for a good hour and a half.

Overlanding, camping, bike and backpacking means you find yourself cooking in so many different places.

@dandean We usually disperse camp on public land. It is very rare, outside of one county campground in a tiny remote mountain town in Utah, that we’ve ever paid for camping. Our goal is to be as remote and away from people as possible. You can get a good sense of it from the newsletter archives: nazhamid.com/newsletter/

Every Father’s Day, @jenschuetz and I are acutely reminded of our fathers not just because of the namesake day but because our dads passed away on Father’s Day of their respective years.

Love to all the dads out there. Hold them close!

Have you ever experienced the horror of having the muses breaking up with you? I bet you have, it’s part of being a creative.

It would make me happy if you would print out one of these panels and hang it to your mirror (or above your desk) to cheer you up.
