so whats up mastodon, do you think I will get tenure this year? I take bets below, and while you would probably before betting want to know how confident I feel:

I never felt confident about a damn thing in my life, and this makes me terrified because unemployment is the Armageddon, the Ragnarök, the literal twilight of the gods in my inherited DNA. It is the arch-terror that makes even the bravest of men whimper before charging headlong into destruction.

kinda pleased that it only took me half an hour to migrate from my locally hosted , which I sold, to a VPS at Hetzner - i wanna selfhost buuuut i am young and needed the money.

Here we got the opensource cookbook "Mealie" running full tilt at my new home :)

i know there are about 500 commercial tools that does this, but that is sort of the point - i want my own opensource one that doesnt do weird shit.

a little silly tool from the dungeons - fire off your fav shortcut and a voice to text thingie appears and transcribes whatever you say and throws it into your clipboard. So I can dictate stuff to copy and paste etc.

It also cleans up the uuuhs and aaaahs if you use a cloud service that supports that, or not if you roll your own locally hosted which is SEMI-nicely architecturally separated. Love doing small useful tools like this.

"I'm an average user, so I don't need all the options and apps the programme has to offer. But, to be honest, #Microsoft is making it increasingly attractive to switch. Now that the company is putting #AI in everything, everything is becoming more annoying to use."

Can Dutch #universities do without Microsoft?
dub.uu.nl/en/news/can-dutch-un

IMO, it's never been easier to switch away from the problematic players because we've got so many alternatives that got much better over time whereas Microsoft and others are practicing #enshittification.

We've done it before. Somehow, we found that giving away knowledge and control to use the #cloud was a good idea. It never was because we've lost so much competence we now need to ramp up very quickly.

Pollution levels in Paris after they introduced bike lanes and car restrictions

Red = EU limits for Nitrogen Dioxide pollution

Original graphics by Atelier Parisien d'Urbanisme
apur.org

A series of six heatmap-style graphics showing changes in pollution levels across Paris over time, with each square map labeled by year: 2007, 2010, 2015, 2017, 2020, and 2024. The earlier maps in 2007 and 2010 are dominated by dense red and orange colors concentrated in the city center, with landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame labeled, indicating heavy pollution. Over the years the intensity of red areas fades, especially in 2015 and 2017 where the pollution begins to spread less densely, and by 2020 the colors shift more toward yellow and green, showing significant reductions in pollution. The 2024 map is the cleanest, with the majority of the area in yellow and green tones and only major road arteries showing thin red lines, demonstrating far less air pollution. Each map includes a “2 miles” scale marker, and the visual progression highlights how bike lanes and car restrictions introduced in Paris contributed to decreasing air pollution levels throughout the city.

well hooooraaaay RecipeFriend now works (on chrome and maybe FF too)

Save cleaned up versions of recipes from websites full ofcrap as the generally used Recipe Schema that works with, among other things, Mealie but also Paprika and larger digital cookbook/recipe-managers.

Uses a lot of javascript and stuff, and uses google gemini AI to clean up the recipes. We could use a local AI but meh.

Its 1pm on a Saturday do you know where your son is ? The OS running off a USB stick meaning we can game anywhere we can be bothered to bring a controller and a USB stick

Favourite games are Nintendo ones so far and I of course own the originals, I even have the NFOs still.
