I just set up a recurring donation to @wikipedia. As the information environment grows increasingly totalitarian, Wikipedia is more important than ever, and it's under existential threat. Imagine losing it.
h/t @anildash
I'm donating to the ACLU Minnesota and I'd love you to go ahead and do so too.
What's happening in Minnesota is an escalation of things that have happened in other cities - Chicago, Portland, LA, DC. It could be coming to your city next.
I don't say that to scare you. But it might be good to ask yourself:
If this was happening in my neighborhood, who would I reach out to? How would I take action? Who would I trust?
Start building those connections now. If you already have some, strengthen them.

These ICE agents all have phones and cars connected to the internet. They have operatives using that data against protesters. We heed hackers using that data against them to publicize their names and addresses. We need analog and digital lists circulated widely.
Their neighbors need to know who they are.
We need to track them for prosecution purposes.
Where are the tech bros on the resistance side?
I'll just leave this here… https://freedom.press/digisec/blog/signal-beginners/
Interested in setting up an #ATProto account on an instance that's not #Bluesky but can't find any. Do open ATProto instances exist? Is @surf running its own instance on the #ATmosphere?
This is absolutely awesome! The @leavex campaign now has their website up an running, so we can see exactly which members of the EU parliament still support Musk's disinformation platform X, and avoid voting for them.
I hope @leavex expands to add every national parliament — the disinformation has to end.
Se their excellent overview here:

Please boost this to support the campaign.
One Year of Trump. The Time to Act Is Now, While We Still Can. “We can’t count on change being brought about by elections when we can’t count on elections. I love The Economist but if they keep reporting on random people's Polymarket bets like that's some kind of relevant insight, I'm going to rage quit my decade-long subscription. FFS.
"Polymarket, a prediction market, dropped sharply, while those of Kevin Warsh, a Fed governor during Mr Trump’s first term, rose."
I'm not sure things can get any more nutty than this.
One thing that's tough for people who just join the Fediverse, like most of the folks on #theforkiverse , is that there are self-appointed experts who reply to their public posts saying that "the Fediverse" doesn't like that kind of content.
This is untrue. They don't speak for all of us. Nobody does. You can't spell "Fediverse" without "diverse"; for good or ill, there are different viewpoints on almost any topic found here.
@desikn Picking an older version worked! Thanks again!
@desikn Thanks so much -- I'll try that.
A new native macOS client, a funded roadmap for Draupnir, and a Matrix meetup planned in Tokyo – that and lots more happened This Week in Matrix!

@desikn Thanks, I realize I'm due for an upgrade -- haven't received an upgrade notification yet so I'm still on PopoOS 22. That extension looks great but isn't compatible with my Gnome version. Someone else flagged one that's not as neat but works. Thanks!
