@arratoon 😳🤩 Congrats!
I post short comments about the movies I watch. Occasionally books, quotes, tv shows, music and momentary photos, too.

For reasons two paracetamol will probably sort out in about half an hour (headache, innit), I can't be bothered with actual words right now. Have some stars instead.

I love the craftsmanship of a director telling very, very simple, even mundane stories in an extraordinary way, making them a joy to watch.

Remembering seeing The Cider House Rules and Chocolat in the cinema at the turn of the century, I wanted the melancholic warmth of a Lasse Hallström movie and picked this one from the watchlist. It didn’t disappoint.
I always had some sort of prejudice against Lana Del Rey (don’t ask why). Yesterday’s #1001Albums pick was her “Chemtrails Over the Country Club”, and to my surprise, I actually enjoyed it. Much less pretentious than I’d expect (maybe just a little), and not overproduced at all.
Wind turbines in the sky.
CANE TOADS: AN UNNATURAL HISTORY - Documentary about the disastrous introduction of the Hawaiian sugarcane toad to Australia as a form of pest control. If we didn't know better, we might assume this was a spoof, because it's very, very funny and strange
CLAIRE'S CAMERA - Fairly straightforward relationship drama about which I have nothing much to say. (And the mystery of why I never became a professional film critic continues...)
CASTLE OF BLOOD - Bookended by appearances from a character called Edgar Allen Poe, a man takes a wager and spends a night in a creepy castle where he hears a lot of theremin
THE TRIP TO ITALY [TV SERIES] - Nice work if you can get it, huh?

Not intentionally but second week in a row, another movie with Robert Pattinson. Mark Ruffalo shines as a future politician inspired by the current potus. More Okja than Parasite. Overall, a fun watch.
• Now, Voyager •
One of the longest-running items on my watchlist. Bette Davis coming out of the closet as an independent woman, where she was trapped by her mother. The process of healing and finding love. No wonder it’s a gay favourite.

@arratoon Although I’m not going to do it myself, I fully support this trend. Park picnics are gonna be more fun.
Google Photos reminded me that this was me 10 years ago, riding on the 2015 AIDS/LifeCycle. This will be my 11th and last year participating. I was a roadie twice and will have been a rider 9 times.
Still time to donate to my fundraising https://bit.ly/jorgerides if you're interested.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me raise funds for an amazing cause over the last 14 years.
I know nobody gives a shit, but there are a ton of artists from the 50s and 60s who sold their songs for like $100 each, not knowing how valuable they’d be in the future, never regained the master recordings, or any substantial royalties. But yeah, free Taylor I guess 🙄
The new Harry Potter show is upon us, and while there's debate as to how much JK Rowling is involved in the running of the show, the fact remains: it's her IP. It makes money, she makes money.
If you watch it, if you buy HP merch, if you visit the HP park attractions, if you make others curious to watch it, etc., you are funding this TERF's persecution of trans people.
So, don't.

I haven’t been using #Procreate for a while, but it looks like I should start again. I like where they stand with AI.
THREE POPLARS ON PLYUSCHIKHA STREET - Brief Encounter II: Briefer Encounter... A rural Russian woman in a less than perfect marriage travels to Moscow and strikes up an instant rapport with her taxi driver.
DUTCHMAN - A black guy on the NY subway is minding his own business when an unstable white woman comes along. From a one-act stage play, and doesn't even attempt to escape its theatrical roots. Made in Britain -- I suspect because they couldn't get it made in the US at this time. It's bracing stuff
MILLENNIUM MAMBO - Gorgeous and melancholy - the best tonal combination
DARLINGS! - Firstly, there's stuff in this that does not fly in 2025 and shouldn't have flown in 1984 either. What on Earth were they thinking? Drawing a veil over that, however, it's an all-over-the-place comedy about kids at war with their parents that flirts with incomprehensibility at times, but is never boring and odd enough to be memorable

Well, cinematography, symbolism, sound editing, genre-bending, exploring human nature and all that jazz, plus, a moustached black-and-white Robert Pattinson masturbating.
@hth A few years ago, I watched a movie from Iceland at BFI Flare (London’s LGBTQ film festival), and after the screening, there was a Q&A with the director. It was revealed that the guy who directed the movie was also the goalkeeper of the Icelandic football team. 🤷♂️
