At first, it was just an idea that I needed to unpack. Now, it's become a whole meditation on my own childhood and relationship to shitty adults running shitty institutions that are supposed to serve kids but instead treat them like problems to be solved.

My villain *loves* to give speeches where all eyes are on here, she's the centre of attention, but then she says she's humble and doesn't want attention, and her followers need to know that no one will ever know the great service they did to society. It's cult shit, and my protagonist HATES it.

Dialogue. Once I know how characters talk, I can intuit what they would say or or do in most any situation. I need to stop and question it in case I'm descending into stereotype, ofc, but I'm very confident in it the majority of the time.

Edit: Close second is sheer speed. Once I get going, I crank it out. I do have an internal problem, though.

#ScribesAndMakers Jul 30: Whether or not you did everything you hoped to, what's something that went well this month?

I came up with a good way to fix my big fight scene, and I had to lie very still for 30 minutes for a medical procedure (I'm fine!), so I scripted the opening bits of it in my head. Once I get a chance, I'll write that down. Ideation is turning into a really important part of my process.
