Lukas Orsvärn

Hello! I work as a technical artist. I got into that line of work because I love learning and building things.

After years of yelling into the void, the void finally answered our call! The Bevy Foundation has acquired the bevy.org domain, and as of today it is live as our official domain!

Everything has been updated, including our Bluesky handle (which is now @bevy.org) and all official emails.

This geometric bestiary features imaginative creatures brought to life through a unique fusion of styles, combining the bold geometric contours of silhouette with the clean, minimalist aesthetic of mid-century modern animation.

First blog post in almost a year! It’s about using shaders to make a plane look like a sphere: orsvarn.com/sphere-plane/

@hellocatfood that’s so cool! What prisms are you using?

Hello! It's almost midnight and I've been thinking.

It's been almost a year since I posted here. I started sharing my stuff in private group chats with friends instead.

That's nice, but thinking about if I should post things publicly here instead. Maybe I will.

Another thing I've been thinking about is that I should start updating my blog! Been about a year since I did anything with that one as well!

One reason I had for not updating it was that I would rather for instance spend time working on something, than spend time writing about working on something. But I think it'd be good for me to put some stuff out, so I'll for sure do that.

@mikolasan @seandick glad you like it! 😁

I don’t plan to delete it. :)

I really like Mastodon! It sucks that I get addicted to these social media dopamine loops though.

It’s a success for Mastodon that it can addict me in the same way something like Twitter can. You’re playing in the big league now!

The question is if this type of social media is a good idea. Is social media in general even a good idea in the first place?

@mikolasan @seandick here is a quick video on how to do what I'm talking about: orsvarn.com/video/smooth-norma

2024-06-14

@Alrecenk this is actually my rule of thumb when tweaking any variable! I always tweak until I’m clearly too far in the other direction, and then dial it back from that. Sounds like you do this too?

2024-06-12

@mikolasan @seandick learning to control the vertex normals is the key to this look.

It’s hard to explain in text how to do it, maybe I can make a quick explanation video at some point.

#StaticStaticWeb #StataticWeb #NoScriptWeb #StaticestWeb #SuperStaticWeb #UltraStaticWeb #HtmlCssWeb #PlainWeb #StaticOnlyWeb #PureStaticWeb #CodelessWeb #DocumentWeb #DocWeb #PlainDocWeb #PlainFilesWeb #HtmlWeb

What can a website that doesn’t run any server side or client side code when serving pages be called? It’s just html, css, images, videos, etc.

#PlainWeb is nice, but not sure if it’s clear enough on its own.

#StataticWeb is pretty fun! “static web” is already defined to mean “statically hosted”, but can still include for instance JavaScript. This is more static than a regular static site, it’s statatic!

#HtmlWeb feels too broad. Like yeah, all sites are HTML!

#CodelessWeb maybe? It’s a bit long, and not sure it conveys the right meaning.

@hobs @markstos @gohugoio that’s a very reasonable approach! I’ll post about how it goes! 😁 Thanks for challenging my approach!

@byjp hm, on my end it doesn’t pick up at all that these are a thread, but it does pick it up in the web client. So probably an issue in my client (official iOS Mastodon).

Interesting to read your perspective! It seems different from mine and the other in this thread! Everyone has a different interpretation!

I’ll see if I can find or come up with a term for html+css only websites. Maybe a term that’s less up for interpretation. 🤔

2024-06-10

@byjp @adele your post ends with “(1/3)”as if it’s a thread, but I don’t see any responses. Is this a bug on my end?
