We'd have to talk about defining character and love a little bit to get far too deep into this. I've done more than a few self-inserts and proxies over the years, including the ever-weird Aspirational Self Insert.

But for whole-cloth folks, I'm big into Draven Hardgate right now. He had depth right off the hop and that depth is a depth of feeling. Exploring his mental state is easy, because I get him. We share a lot of motivations and concerns.

His sect strongly deprecates the use of scent as scent, but the culture uses various herbs, etc. to keep vermin out of clothes storage. So, possibly cedar or fleabane.

Sebastian quite famously considers himself over-sensitive to smells, and probably would not wear scent.

Poetically though, there are any of a number of plants from which you can extract potent poisons that I'm sure would also make wonderful fragrances.
