Hmmm ... it seems front-end.social imported all my follows except those on mastodon.social and toot.cafe ... dunno why.
Trying to migrate to @front-end.social but it's not going well ... unless I'm too impatient.
Only 6 of my 78 follows were moved even though the CSV contains all of them, and how (or whether) my followers are going to move is a complete mystery to me.
@TheGreenGreek @SaraSoueidan We will have to be extra nice to @mia then and beg for an invitation as well.
I'd like to move from mastodon.social to a front-end-focused instance.
@SaraSoueidan There is a front-end.social? Hmmm....
Officially replaced the Twitter app by the Mastodon app on my phone's home screen.
I still have the Twitter app, but on the second screen.
Let's see if this has any impact on my habits.
The Roman Emperor (in Constantinople) still feels entitled to meddle in his lands in the West that are temporarily under barbarian officials - for instance by sending another barbarian king, Theodoric of the Ostrogoths, to defeat Odoacer. This will happen eleven years later.
478 followers. The Roman Empire has officially fallen two years ago - but nobody really noticed.
Odoacer, the general who took power in Italy, sent the imperial regalia of the West to Constantinople to indicate that he considered himself an official of the Roman Emperor Zeno, and that he didn't need a separate Emperor in the West.
In fact, most barbarian rulers in the West still consider themselves Roman officials, with the Vandal king of Africa as the notable exception.
Oh dear, forgot about the years game. We're now in 457, Attila the Hun is dead, and Majorian becomes emperor of the West. He is considered the last Western emperor who actually did anything, even though his big attack on Vandal-held Africa will fail in four year and he'll be killed.

I think we are going to have to collectively come to the understanding that for mastodon to work at scale, many users are going to have to chip in financially.
Can I embed a Twitter thread here?
*Should* I?
(I think it's a really good thread, obvs, but this may be a question of whether and how we separate Mastodon and Twitter.)
@zachleat Oh? Are they falling apart into warring factions, with two or more React Core Teams who denounce the other(s) as heretics?
And up to 411 followers. That goes fast!
Constantine III is meanwhile defeated and killed, after having held power in Gallia and Britannia for a few years, by general Constantius.
It's unclear what the barbarians did meanwhile, apart from serving as mercenaries of both Constantine and Constantius.
@marcthiele It did! Great conference; possibly our best one so far.
We are learning how our new venue works; all attendees ware really happy to see one another; speakers were great; everything fine.
Ah, 406 followers!
On the last day of that year the Vandals, Burgundians, and Alans crossed the frozen Rhine.
This had happened before; a barbarian incursion was annoying, but had been handled before.
Because the central government didn't do anything, the commander of Britannia proclaimed himself Emperor as Constantine III, and a civil war was brewing. This, too, had happened before.
There. The invoices that were sent are paid. I should probably send out a bunch of mails as well, but I feel very lazy today.
Also have to work on an article series ... but there's always tomorrow.
