I had an app like this years ago that was amazing - let you correct distorted page scans and PDF or OCR them. It enshittified and turned into a subscription, of course. This one appears to be fully offline, but we'll see.

I don't understand the hype behind the #Arattai messaging app. The hype exists only because the app is made in #India, which don't get me wrong, is indeed a plus point for us Indians but it also needs to compete with established players in terms of tech, you can't just expect people to blindly jump ship just because of the #MadeInIndia tag.

It doesn't even have end-to-end encryption for messages which is laughable for a messaging app in 2025, seriously!

The NRIs sitting elsewhere investing in real estate in India seeking high returns through house rent are the sick parasites and worst enemies of the working class.

@simplex some unique features that I like,

1. Live messaging (it's unique, but I feel it may lead to negative effects depending on how the receiver may perceive an incomplete message).
2. Media Blur - helps in public places to avoid accidentally revealing pics to shoulder surfers.
3. Multiple chat profiles - same app to isolate family, friends & other affiliations.

What I miss? Audio call in groups.

I may self-host a private SMP server in future.

I recently discovered @simplex through the fedi timeline & am fascinated by their design principles. No UserIDs! I spent hours reading through their docs to understand how it works and definitely taking privacy & security to the next level. It feels like the platform has taken the best of all words (p2p, decentralization, federation & cryptography) and engineered a robust solution. The venture capital is the only problem, I see. A nonprofit governance model like #signalapp would improve trust.
