“A Class in Plain Sight, Treated as If It’s Invisible: The Working Class Today.”

Millions who keep society running are spoken of as stereotypes, if at all. This essay calls out the erasure — and demands we see the people behind the labor.👇

“The System’s Not Perfect, But…”

My latest post is a critique of the myth that liberal capitalism is the best solution we have. If the system keeps failing the many, maybe it’s time to imagine something new.

“I am so happy I live in a western democracy, if I speak out about my boss I have to find a new job if I speak out about my landlord I have to find a new home if I speak out online I will be muted or banned I can buy 40 brands of breakfast cereal all owned by three different companies if I protest in the street I will be arrested this is the best”

I suggest Jeremy Corbyn and anyone else (maybe Palestine protesters or striking workers and unions) immediate sue the BBC for the same misrepresentations, slanders and smears. Or is this path only available to the ruling class? rte.ie/news/uk/2025/1110/15430

Some rough notes on how trauma associated with the Holocaust is manipulated by ruling classes. Haven't had the time to format this exactly but, anyway...

I think of this quote often nowadays.

"O, yes! The ruling class are worthy of study. The natural history of the ruling class is of fascinating interest. You begin with interest, you proceed with awe and admiration, you deepen into hatred, and you wind up with contempt for the nature of the beast. You realise that – The Capitalist Class is the Meanest Class that ever grasped the Reins of Power."
- James Connolly

Michael Parenti wrote about what he called “rational fascism”. Rational fascism contradicts the idea, generally held, that fascism was an act of one-off, uniquely German insanity. Rather, he showed that capitalists supported fascism in order to boost their profitability and to counter working-class politics. Why is it important to understand fascism in this way? Because it shows that it was not some insane one-off event isolated to Germany (or Italy), but a rational tendency of capitalism itself

Regarding Miriam Adelson, interesting to note that she became an expert in addiction and then married a casino billionaire whose business is in gambling (addiction). aljazeera.com/news/2025/10/13/

Born in Tel Aviv in 1945 after her parents immigrated from
Poland, Adelson trained as a physician specialising in addic-
tion treatment.

In 1991, she married Sheldon Adelson, a self-made casino bil-
lionaire who had built the Las Vegas Sands into a gambling
empire with resorts across Asia and the US.

The hijacking and weaponisation of antisemitism is nothing new - it has been happening for a hundred years.

Quote from Proletarian Perspective website which reads:

In one example from that time (1945), George Orwell described how anti-semitic members of the English establishment cynically and disingenuously posed as allies of the Jewish people :

An event

'on behalf of the Polish Jews was held in a synagogue. The local authorities declared themselves anxious to participate in it, and the service was attended by the mayor of the borough in his robes and chain, by representatives of all the churches, and by detachments of R.A.F., Home Guards, nurses, Boy Scouts and what-not. On the surface, it was a touching demonstration of solidarity with the suffering Jews. But it was essentially a conscious effort to behave decently by people whose subjective feelings must in many cases have been very different ... as I well knew, some of the men sitting round me in the synagogue were tinged by [anti-semitism]. Indeed, the commander of my own platoon of Home Guards, who had been especially keen beforehand that we should ‘make a good show’ at the intercession service, was an ex-member of Mosley’s Blackshirts'3

@prau This might be the opinion of some, but it is not the concrete analysis of class that Wright (and Marx) were striving towards. There's a lot to the Marxist definition of class, from the positions occupied by workers within the economy to their relationship with capitalism. The typical everyday narrative of class - the colloquial (and ideological) terms "middle class" for example - differ greatly from the same terms employed by Marx or Wright which had a scientific meaning.

The latest piece in my series of notes on Erik Olin Wright's book "Classes". This section focuses on the conceptual problems facing class and especially the concept of the "middle class".
