I post and repost things that I find interesting. No rhyme, no reason... just random.

Let's talk about that.

@mattotcha What will happen is that institutions of higher learning will begin to lean on rhetoric and discourse. Every exam will be like defending a thesis.

New research from MIT found that those who used ChatGPT can’t remember any of the content of their essays.

Key takeaway: the product doesn’t suffer, but the process does. And when it comes to essays, the process *is* how they learn.

💭️ Open Source | June 19, 2025 - 10:00 p.m.

I will always give open source developers grace and leeway because most of the time, they are doing the best they can with what they have... like the rest of us.

Great News! I have moved to Signal for my messaging needs!

The catch: No one that I know personally uses it.

If you're a fan of the original Lemmings, you might also appreciate this other game: "The Humans". It's a puzzle platformer, published in 1992 for the Commodore Amiga and later ported to IBM-PC and many other platforms.

Here's the original English Amiga version. KryoFlux streams, CT RAW and ADF disk images, as well as 600dpi disk scans:

The manual: archive.org/details/the-humans

Have fun! 😜

@flamed I would say for a non-technical user, the initial setup would be the scariest part as it requires pip install for mkdocs-material and npm install for surge.sh.

So, initial setup: 3.5 out of 5 difficulty. (Both projects are well documented, though).

However, after setup, Authoring: 1.5 out of 5 difficulty. (Rounded up for the use of Markdown, but that is really well documented, too).

I wrote a quick how to here: readbeanicecream.surge.sh/2025

Source: I am really not a technical person.

@flamed

"Static HTML and a Web Host"

I am partial to this method myself since I use Mkdocs-material and surge.sh. Such an easy process:

1. Write

2. Build

3. Publish

Not much else to it.

@fundor333 I can't comment on if it is dying or not, but for a newbie like me it does seem overly complex to implement.

Just reading the spec made my head spin a little. So, comparing webmentions to social media comments, a comment service, or just an old fashioned reply post and an email, the technical barrier seems pretty high.

I am not sure I could even implement it since my site is just static HTML.

This could be one reason you are seeing fewer webmentions.

More and more time pass, more views my blog has and less and less webmention I get. They are dying? Or what? Do you have any idea about it?

People who sell AI Tech: "AI will replace everyone in the coming weeks! AGI IS HERE!"

People who actually build AI Tech: "OMG, we need so many people to support effective LLMs. Research, Engineering, Security, Testing, Verification. We need more people!"

🤔🤔🤔

@Xavier @GrapheneOS Heard great things about GrapeneOS. Unfortunately, I only have older Samsung Devices to test, and they are not supported.

Maps I have used organic maps with mixed results. I'll definitely checkout Here WeGo. Thanks for the recommendation!
