@David

I haven't thought about teenagers yet.

I've been focusing on prepubescents so far — and starting with toddlers.

Mostly because I have first-hand experience as a father of toddlers. One of my children is even a toddler still. And, I have access to other parents of toddlers (to do research with).

...

But, I do think thinking about how the Fediverse could be made to accommodate teenagers in a worthwhile thing to do.

@David

There doesn't have to be auto-play.

The user-experience could be —

The parent picks a video on their phone, and the video gets played on a TV that the kids watch.

When that video is done, it is over, unless the parent picks another video.

(That is more or less what I do with my kids.)

.

@David

For example, a parent might have an app that gives them access to curated areas of videos for toddlers on the Fediverse.

The parent could decide what curators to "follow". And, decide what content creators to "follow". Etc.

Then (the parent) could browse through the videos (maybe with their toddler). And then decide what they want to let their kids watch.

...

@David

I think you could use Fediverse technology (ActiviyPub, ActivityStream, NodeInfo, WebFinger, etc) to create a Fediverse for kids —

But, the user-experience would be very different than the Fediverse apps we have now.

@elduvelle

I can't speak for all parents, but —

My kids did (and still do) go out and do stuff.

But, we also let them watch videos for a limited time 1 day a week.

...

One thing I noticed —

When my kids started watching Ms. Rachel, their language abilities and their vocabulary increased.

I think her content is excellent.

@David

I think the kid-friendly tools for the Fediverse still need to be created.

But, I think a good first-step is defining what "kid-friendly tools for the Fediverse" would look like.

For example, putting it in writing, describing them.

That way it creates a roadmap for developers to implement.

Something Fediverse related that I am working on —

Toddlerverse

Basically, what I have been thinking about is —

What would take to make areas of the Fediverse geared towards toddlers.

(The document I am writing is still a work in progress.)

(I am a parent of young children, so I have first-hand experience with kids usage of online media, including social-media.)

Imagine an online world designed for your toddler — not to sell to them, or track them, or overstimulate them — but to help them grow. One that puts parents in control.

The Toddlerverse is a safe, gentle, ad-free digital space inspired by the calm, educational approach of Mr. Rogers and Ms. Rachel. It gives your child access to simple, developmentally appropriate videos, songs, and activities — without autoplay traps, noisy algorithms, or surprise content. You (the parent) stay in control of what your toddler sees, and everything is built around real early-childhood learning science The Toddlerverse isn't about more screen time; it's about better screen time. It is a place where your toddler can explore safely, learn at their own pace, and experience the kind and thoughtful media every parent wishes existed online

The Toddlerverse is not a business, and it is not driven by profit. Its purpose is far greater: to create a lasting resource for parents, families, caregivers, and communities that nurtures the growth and development of young children. Every video, story, and activity is designed to serve the public good, freely accessible and shareable, so that parents everywhere can support their toddlers' learning and curiosity

The Toddlerverse is built with the future in mind—a cultural and educational commons that can be used, adapted, and enjoyed for generations, leaving a legacy of knowledge, creativity, and care that will benefit children and families long into the future

I wonder if the gap is too large for them.

They might not be able to perceive the expertise the guest speakers — since they are so far away in knowledge and experience.

...

That, or they don't yet realize the value guest speakers offer.

#Hollo 0.7 brings a redesigned #notification system with much better performance. We've moved from generating #notifications on-demand to storing them as they happen, which makes the notifications endpoint about 60% faster. We've also added response compression (though if you're using a reverse proxy, you probably had this already).

More notably, Hollo 0.7 implements Mastodon's v2 grouped notifications API. Notifications like favorites, follows, and reblogs targeting the same post or account are now grouped together server-side, reducing clutter. Clients that support the new API (introduced in #Mastodon 4.3) will show cleaner, more organized notifications automatically.

Hollo 0.7 is still in development, but we're excited to share it with you when it's ready!

Three years ago today, we opened the doors to our corner of the Fediverse. 💙

What started as an idea has grown into a friendly space for good conversations, smart humor, and authentic interactions. It’s been amazing watching this community grow with all of you.

Thank you to everyone who’s shared, posted, and made Vivaldi Social part of their online space. You’ve helped shape this community into what it is today.

Here’s to everyone who’s been part of it, and to all the new voices we’ll meet along the way.

Happy 3rd birthday, Vivaldi Social! 🎉

- Team Vivaldi

Do you know of a community that could use their own Federated mapping server? Please DM me.

In six weeks, I've made TONS of progress on Atlas Maps, and I'm confident with real people using it in the field.

atlasdemo.emissary.social

So I spent this morning reaching out to a handful of integrators and consultants, but I can't find everyone.

Please help me reach out to the activists, builders, and organizers you know who need to map local events in their communities.

Who should I contact next?

I am passing the torch to @mellifluousbox, who will be the new Executive Director. Felix has been involved with since 2020 and has been instrumental in evolving the organization, raising funds, and growing the team to get us to where we are now. With @haubles and @renchap by his side, and the team we have assembled over the years, I have faith that the new leadership will do a stellar job.

Today I am stepping down from my role as the CEO of . Though this has been in the works for a while, I can't say I've fully processed how I feel about it. There is a bittersweet part to it, and I think I will miss it, but it also felt necessary. It feels like a goodbye, but it isn't—I intend to stay on and continue to advise the new leadership and contribute, because Mastodon—and the fediverse—is one of the very few beacons of hope for a better web.
