Supply chain technology guy. I love the outdoors 🏞️, hiking 🥾 and learning how things work ⚙️; interested in natsec, infosec & foreign policy. I also like cars 🚗 & planes ✈️. Formerly of IBM and Blue Yonder; a bit of that sticks with me, I guess.
I work at TradeBeyond, yet this is a personal account with my personal opinions.

@wonka I don’t think there is a legal way to do it, either. Yet the optics of an Israeli official being arrested by German police are so juicy they’d overshadow the angle that, bound by its historic responsibility, Germany must not turn a blind eye to genocide.

The only winning move is not to play.

@randahl @salome dw.com/en/merz-invites-netanya – Merz said he’d find a way for Netanyahu to visit without arresting him. I don’t see that as an explicit invitation, but suggesting to flout an arrest warrant is not nothing.

@ErikJonker Which is to be expected because he probably doesn’t think that people in the U.S. or anywhere else have free will. Or, more likely, he knows they have free will but he just couldn’t care less, because only the will of the strongest counts for him.

@Workshopshed @randahl Yep, he clearly fell for that joke where the military flies you to Whiteland and tries to convince you that it’s Greenland. But one look at a satellite image immediately tells you all you need to know.

Mr. VP, don’t trust the woke, liberal military. I’ve marked it out for you on the map below.

A satellite map of the world. Greenland (white in colour from snow and ice) is circled and labelled “Whiteland” in red handwriting, a large part of South America, green from the jungle of the Amazon, is circled and labelled Greenland.

@randahl The root cause is obviously the existence of journalism. Take the journalist out of the situation and there’s no more problem! Thanks Obama!

But I’m sure Dear Leader will fix that.

@lopta @michaelrowe01 Yes, given that IBM did DEI before it was DEI, and long before the partially performative DEI wave, this looks like bending the knee.
Yet even thinking purely in business terms, exposing companies to litigation for exercising their freedom to hire as they want and maybe making a bet on disadvantaged groups restricts competition. It’s just “bad for business”, as they say.

Please read this speech by a French senator who tells harsh truths about the Trump regime and Russia, and challenges Europe to stand up for what is needed. Then, please ask your members of Congress to read it, too. thebulletin.org/2025/03/for-th

@randahl I see. He needs to do this to save the country … these are _vital measures_ … have we heard this before?

Excerpt from the transcript of Adolf Hitler‘s speech to the Reichstag from 23 March 1933, in the original Fraktur print.

In English: “The government intends to make use of this law only to the extent necessary to carry out the vital measures. Neither the existence of the Reichstag nor the Reichsrat should be threatened by this. The position and rights of the Reich President remain unaffected; bringing about internal agreement with his will will always be the supreme task of the government.”

@randahl The true spirit of a “free speech absolutist”! Looks like everyone can speak freely to their database.

@gruber “Golf von Mexiko” on a German (Germany) locale in Germany

A screenshot of Apple Maps on the iPhone, showing the area of the Gulf of Mexico and parts of the U.S. and Mexico gulf coast. The gulf is labelled “Golf von Mexiko” in German.

@agent_matahari @randahl That still works! Now the big question is: should it be flagged as incorrect or as hate speech?

@randahl Google also seem to have disabled reporting problems with this entry. And reviews have been turned off, too.

For good reason, probably.

“the NSA is working with ‘Data Science Development Program interns’ to ‘understand the false-positive use cases’”

They’re either really good interns … or the goal here is to shift blame for self-sabotage to someone with probable ineptitude.

@scoicaud I think the parking lots also serve as spacing for security purposes, because they’re inside an outer perimeter.
But clearly a nice green park would have served that purpose, too. Especially one with free roaming mountain lions.

A 19 year old has been given admin access to the core US treasury financial system by Elon Musk’s DOGE.

He goes by the name of “Mr. Big Balls” online, is on Russian forums, and has tried to purchase DDoS botnets.

Elon has said sharing this information is illegal, so please do not press the boost button.

@c3manu I remember the end of GeoCities. Many good GIFs died that day. 😅 And certainly countless gems of the early Web.

And no, I don’t have a priority list of those URLs. But since time was of the essence I thought it’d be good if URLs were being submitted as quickly as possible. Since yes, some are already 404 or 302.

But something more scalable would be better.

They still seem to be available, e.g. duckduckgo.com/?q=site%3Agatec

Shame if someone archived them, right? …

As a German, this kind of virtual book burning makes me somewhat uncomfortable*.

@zetabeta CNN is owned by Warner Bros Discovery which is the result of the AT&T acquisition of Time Warner. But it doesn’t even matter, because all large media organisations seem to be bending the knee to maximise short-term shareholder value.
