And given the recent news about that awful billionaire unilaterally deciding to cut of Starlink internet access to parts of the world whenever he wants to, this is extra important to share. Why did our governments effectively gift Low Earth Orbit to one awful dude? This is so bad.

Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, it has disabled the function we used to track the deleted Tweets of elected officials and political candidates — and the new method that Twitter says should identify deleted tweets appears to be broken.
Regardless of one's feelings about Twitter, this is a loss for transparency.

Having given it some thought, early this morning I migrated from mastodon.social to the thinktanki.social instance.
I've experimented with having differently curated HOME, LOCAL and FEDERATED timelines and I like how they work for me. It took a bit of thought to customise them to my liking (for instance I try not to follow anyone on my local instance so that I can get their posts on a separate timeline).
What I have works and I might well permanently wind down activity on the birdsite.
@atomicpoet I was listening to a certain lefty podcaster a few days ago and he wrote off Mastodon because it "took him more than five minutes to get on it, so screw it." (paraphrasing) -- I unfollowed the pod. Here's a fellow who claims to love DIY non-capitalist communitarianism who is not willing to invest any time in using one of the net's flagship communitarian technologies. Says a lot.
Reading WPs from this one office is a fucking pain. They will produce handwritten documents as annexures in regional languages without mentioning why that annexure is important, ffs or even a translation or even typed copy. They will not even mention why that particular document is relevant to their case. It's so lazy ffs. I have to waste my time calling translators who are very busy these days. :(
