So I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending both the and versions of

Ivan Turgenev's 'A Sportsman's Notebook,' also more popularly known as 'Sketches from a Hunter's Album.'

I just finished listening to this wonderful superbly narrated by Steven Marvel. My initial assumption was wrong. This version was translated by Charles and Natasha Hepburn.
I really liked this book. I've bookmarked a few chapters to re-read as prose because Turgenev's descriptions and the translation are so exquisite. Of the 25 chapters / independent short stories, only 2 were boring, IMO. An impressive success rate for a mid 19th century writer to achieve with a 21st century reader.

The next that I've finished in my is;

William Dalrymple's first book, written in 1986 when he was a 21-year-old Cambridge undergraduate. The / / book, In Xanadu: A Quest.

Though I had misgivings about the author's opinions in several places, I liked the book. Though it happened less than 40 years ago, such a journey would be inconceivable now. That alone makes it a unique read.

@sevignes@mas.to "these apps that purport to tell you about a book in 15 minutes"

Oh no! 😲 You've misunderstood the Serial Reader app. See the screenshot from a Mashable review of the app. This app SERIALISES books and delivers one part per day to your phone. They do it for all the out of copyright classics within the app. We can upload our own epub books and get them serialised also.

Btw, I too hate book summary apps like Blinkist. I can't understand why people would read books like that.

A Luxury Called Health: A Doctor's Journey Through the Art, the Science and the Trickery of Medicine by Kavery Nambisan

I could relate so well from the first chapter - as a small town boy who went to study in a medical college in southern India.
Oh, and I could never 'pith a frog.' I still can't stand frogs and reptiles.

Oh, btw, I used @SerialReader app to finish my last book - the Arundhati Roy book mentioned in my immediate last post. I think I put the app to good use. That's the first book that I finished using the app. This will definitely continue. Especially to clear up the unfinished books in my reading list. I'm finding it very useful and productive.

Just finished Arundhati Roy's The Doctor and The Saint.

This is a good read even for those who are familiar with Ambedkar and Gandhi's debate on caste. It gives a lot of context, more than just Ambedkar's 'Annihilation of Caste,' speech.

So, it will be an eye-opener for those who are not aware of the debate. Highly recommended if you want to know more about that part of

For those curious, it's a book available in . But my strong recommendation is to avoid it. 📚

I’m guessing this is an older translation by Constance Garnett, as no translator is mentioned. I’m reading this for @poongabook’s theme of for this month.
