@bagder I just noticed that FreeBSD installs wcurl as a bonus when you install curl. The OS default method is fetch, no wget.

@vicgrinberg It's been so long! Actually it was the dean, not the chair. The chair hooded me on stage. I did find a diplomatic way of honoring my advisor in the final approved version of the dissertation.
@mattblaze What gets me is when I use a second mechanism to purchase an item (as the first one has failed), only to get reminded that the item is still in the shopping cart of the first.
@vicgrinberg Reminds me of when the department chair asked me to remove the name of my advisor from the acknowledgements page of my dissertation, as he had moved on to another university. I had worked with him for six years.
Unless Apple also increments the Darwin kernel version to 26, we'll be stuck with a *OS xx = kernel yy + 1 situation, e.g. macOS 26 has Darwin Kernel 25.0.0. Talk about off by one errors...
The difference between Aqua (a.k.a. Liquid Glass 1.0) and Liquid Glass is the index of refraction: 1.33 and ~ 1.5.
@karlauerbach Those of us who grew up in the Bay Area, certainly know of him!
This is the non-emotional (!) version of what the Planetary Society thinks about the #NASA FY 2026 Budget Request ... from an ongoing online press conference.

@nixCraft A feature that doesn’t need to be added to macOS Sequoia and above: The OS already forces this on all apps. I have to manually allow this access to be able to use my home server.

@sundogplanets Last year when the northern lights were visible all the way down to the gulf coast, I got much better pictures with my phone than with my $5k camera. I think the camera settings are a bit of a challenge to get right.
I love #UPS - They email me that I'll be getting a package tomorrow morning, signature required. I log on to change delivery date, only to find that they don't have the package yet, and can't tell me when it will be delivered until they do.
(Reuters) - FEMA staff left baffled after the disaster agency’s head said during a briefing that he hadn’t been aware the US has a hurricane season. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/fema-staff-confused-after-head-said-he-was-unaware-us-hurricane-season-sources-2025-06-02/
@badastro Not to mention the damage to NSF astrophysics and space related projects. If I'm not mistaken, I saw a story that lack of funding for LIGO may cause the gravitational wave interferometers to shut down. Never mind more conventional optical observatories...
@sundogplanets According to the SWPC the 21Z Kp index is down to a 4.
Last Wednesday the Birchgletscher in the Swiss Alps collapsed, devastating large parts of the village #Blatten and blocking the Lonza river which created a small lake which destroyed even more houses.
Thanks to aerial images shared by #swisstopo, I was able to create a 3D model of the area.

@Migueldeicaza @siracusa @krzyzanowskim Even though I do use zsh, I have too many old bash scripts, some dating all the way back to mklinux. Hence, bash is one of the first things I install after every macOS update. My FreeBSD servers default to bash anyway. Nothing to be done there!
