@chrastecky It is not a new trend which has been since type theory. Pascal had it from the early 1960s, and so did a lot of ML programming languages. It reduces parsing ambiguity as well.

@chrastecky There are of course more variables than types, and hence you want to keep them meaningful. Separating variable declaration with types also helps IDE and tools with type inference and static checks.
