A rendition of what could’ve been: Peter Lorre as emperor Nero from the forgettable and boring The Story of Mankind (1957)

Stylisation exercises with, who else? Peter Lorre

Some Tales from Edge City concept art! This character’s appearance is based on Old Hollywood actor Keye Luke, a Chinese-American actor from the 1940s who acted alongside Peter Lorre in a few films. The one I remember (and like) the best is Mad Love - he plays Dr Wong, Dr Gogol’s long-suffering right-hand man and probably a better surgeon than his boss!

Happy New Year! Brought to you by Peter Lorre. The cartoonist is regrettably indisposed, having eaten too many oliebollen yesterday evening

Yesterday I was watching Boardwalk Empire (3d season) and sketching the faces of some of my favourite characters without pausing

A bit of fanart of Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre in the 1954 Casino Royale adaptation by Climax!

The building itself stays empty for decades, until the late 70s when a bunch of squatters make it their home and band venue. A rag-tag bunch, they find the organisation’s secret stash of books that used to be printed and distributed among other anarchists, a veritable treasure trove of theory, including Abbott’s own manifesto: ‘the public execution of the nation state’

To Abbott himself, as played by Peter Lorre. In the film he dies, but the original ending meant to have him disappear, ambivalent as to whether he lived or died, and I prefer that ending. In my head, he survived the raid at the end of the film (inspired by the Sidney Street Siege! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Sidney_Street ) and lived on to become the oldest public enemy of the state

So in light of recent events (the Dutch elections) I find myself returning to my favourite film: the 1934 version of The Man who Knew too Much. Where Abbott, an anarchist revolutionary played by Peter Lorre, attempts to kill a foreign official attending a concert at the Albert Hall. This film is my comfort film, and I find myself obsessing over all its details: from how Abbott’s headquarters look like, architecturally speaking

Abbott from The Man Who Knew too Much actually did survive the police raid and sneaked off to become old and spread his own brand of Anarchism where he could until far after the war

@HannahCelsius@sunny.garden thanks! It’s alright, now I just have a cough from hell and I have to eat soft foods or else I get the worst coughing fits… but that’s definitely better than that terrible fatigue I had in the first few days…!
