Since Shortcuts now lets you query Apple Intelligence alongside other models, you can quickly sanity check prompts to see how they compare

Given a color palette, in hex, all three models were asked to come up with a name. All three gave variations on 'sunset' related names

@cronocx i’ll take your word for it. anyway, it made me curious and i’ll give it a go. I usually avoid all those IRL remakes. (The Lion King was the last one 🤢)

@stroughtonsmith My take exactly. This is wild that most missed that.

top-bottom comparison meme. Upper Left: Apple Finder logo v15.5. Upper right, Apple Finder logo v16.0. Lower left the original "Ecco Homo" fresco. Lower left: its botched cartoonish restoration from 2012

@cronocx Happy you liked it. I watched the final trailer a few days ago and it looked good.

I just don’t get why the dragon has to be so close to the animated version. It would have been much interesting IMO to adapt it for IRL.

I don’t get why people are so mad about a bleeped word and why it has to be bleeped at all. (Well I do know why, it’s the American censorship culture pushed down everyone’s throat, but still 🤷🏻‍♂️)

And to John’s question, Marketing is just using one of its tools to make people talk about their products, and they succeed at that. And I don’t think in a tasteless way.

Change my mind…?

@siracusa @phirst Wasn’t it supposed to be humorous? I don’t get the outrage in the responses. why profanities are such a no-no in the US? 🤷🏻‍♂️

@cronocx honestly I intermittently have some issues with SMB and NAS on my Mac Intel (macOS 11.x) Finder not always stable, even with ethernet 1Gb connection. The wild think is that CCC is stable on the same connection. So when I need to move huge chunks of data between the computer and the NAS (a few TB), I use CCC instead of the Finder to copy them. It never fails and Finder fails 50% of the time. Go figure 🤷🏻‍♂️

@cronocx No doubt about that. It feels like a resolve issue with the path source/mount issue, hence my suggestion about the location of the library. Maybe something slow down your local network and it reacts too slowly to iTunes? And if you are connected by Wifi, I would check interferences, going 5G or ethernet

@cronocx iTunes is really kerky when using a remove library (even on regular external media). Maybe you can try to setup an iTunes server on the Synology instead of storing the library/music there? (If you’re below v7.2, Synology deprecated the service starting from 7.2)

@cronocx Got it. Something funky with the NAS. How do you connect to it? AFP? SMB? ethernet or WiFi?

@cronocx Sometime login out and back in solves weirds issues with apple’s services.

The disconnect is strange: Apple keeps talking about putting the focus on content rather than chrome; but the new UI elements are literally the most prominent thing in the new design. Raised sidebar, raised toolbar buttons—aesthetically these are nice, but they’re so attention-grabbing?!

Screenshot of a macOS 26 Finder window. Its UI elements are drawn as if made of glass, standing out far more than the file list or even the window title.

The Dock (and plenty other things) in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger was already perfect.

Just to remind you of how a UI could be legible, colourful, and use transparency where appropriate.

Panel One: The Mac with the smiling face on the screen says, “A long time ago, before many of you were born, personal computers were just being invented. They were created by a small team of dreamers hoping to change the world! They weren’t the tech-bros that we have now, people only interested in power and money. They were artists and engineers who wanted to make society a better place for everyone.” Panel Two: The Mac remembers, “One of them was a guy named Bill Atkinson. Many call him the greatest programmer that ever was. He worked on making me, and created things like the menu bar, midpoint circle and dithering algorithms, RoundRects, MacPaint, QuickDraw, and HyperCard, which inspired the world wide web!” Panel Three: A picture of Bill Atkinson appears on the screen, and the Mac continues, “He devised the code that lets computer windows overlap and be moved around, over and under each other, something we take for granted today! Atkinson created this feature, mistakingly thinking Xerox PARC had already achieved it. They were amazed when they found out he had done so! Bill says, “Because I didn’t know it couldn’t be done, I was enabled to do it.” Panel Four: A photo of Bill holding the MacIntosh appears on the screen. The MacIntosh says, “His work inspired many thousands of programmers and artists, and lives on in millions of applications and creations today. I am so proud of what he gave us, and he will always be a part of me!”
