@dmbaturin Your query must've summoned the bike nerds 😁 . I often ask myself what bike I would buy if I had no bikes and could only have one bike... I feel like I would end up with something like this: velo-orange.com/blogs/vo-voice Very comfy to ride but also fast enough to be fun. Perfect for that mid-life crisis.

@earthshaking @fesshole It was the 70s. The parent could have confessed to ritual abuse and the kid would still have been sent back.

2025-06-25

@dmbaturin Should be made of steel, have enough clearance for fat tyres, be comfortable. This being 2025, it'll probably have disc brakes, which is fine. Just make sure you get one that fits you properly, and ride it a lot. Or you know what, if you really want to go all-in on bike weirdness, get a Rivendell.

@roastinghouse But they still exist, sadly. Wish we could make them go away for good.

2025-06-24

@fesshole HAHAHAHAH. Wow, I'm glad I married someone I actually really like.

2025-06-24

@waarismijnhoofd @cloudedjudge Pollitt can get on the front during a long climb and basically drop everyone except the best climbers. Then Pogi just rides away from them.

2025-06-24

@timrichards Posh hotels and restaurants make me really uncomfortable. Probabaly the us vs them/classist vibe, servants serving their betters etc. Give me low-key anyday.

@Natasha_Jay and never forget that Leann Rimes.

Fucking despicable how a western journalist can standout outside a hospital in Israel where there has been no casualty, one where a TV can set up and broadcast with impunity, one where that country's PM can say - without the hint of irony: "They're targeting a hospital. This hospital has patients who are immobile. They can't even move, and there's a children's ward, a baby's ward, infants, they target it"

But less than 20 miles away ...

#Gaza.

@vanbadham.bsky.social Definitely picked a good time to not have a heavily-right-leaning government.

2025-06-20

@wolfinpdx Full points for his sheer tenacity.

2025-06-20

@fixatedpersonsunit My son is mad for this game.

2025-06-19

@robertklep yeah, that just means they're working.

@autumn I'm not a tech guy, just a guy that has to use tech as part of my job. Our higher-ups are foisting LLM/Ai assistants on us, and many of my colleagues (in different roles to me) are jumping in feet first. As for me, the ethics don't stack up for a start: I come from a library background and the blatant IP theft is just mind-boggling. Then there's the energy usage. Basically, I'm avoiding it, gotta keep my mind limber.

@emery That's a heck of a pencil wormhole to fall into. I fell into a Staedtler wormhole a few years back looking for a favourite writing pencil that had been discontinued. Never did find any or find out why it was discontinued...

@stilgherrian I used to celebrate Bloomsday but I realised that no one cares and I'm a pretentious wanker.

2025-06-16

@stilgherrian I too had 3 days of diarrhoea last week. It was not fun, but I think I'm nearly back to normal now.

2025-06-13

@daihard @ascentale The Cinelli stuff is always good, but I've also had okay luck with the cheap ebay stuff. I wish I could remember what the current one I'm using is, it's fantastic. Remembered that I bought it at a swap meet and the guy had heaps of it, so I guess I just wait til the next swap meet.

2025-06-13

@daihard @ascentale They're less squishy but the good stuff will still have noticeable give. Grip is not as good in the wet but it's never been an issue for me, though I think I prefer less sticky tape.

2025-06-13

@Wolf @Rastal I have the same issue at my local shop. I usually visit on my longtail cargo bike, but there's barely room for a regular bike in the shop.
