I need to get all of my 68K Mac software archives organized onto a netatalk server so that I can access everything easily.
It feels really good when you get a system all customized and working smoothly, with all the tools you need, and everything integrating together.
That was how things were for me back in the System 7.5 days. I've never got back to that state, despite trying. That was the peak of computing for me.
I held out as long as I could, and was still developing Linux software using a 7600 running System 7.5 with an X server until 2011.
Sometimes I find myself booting up my System 7.5 VM, since I'm actually finding I'm more productive using that then modern software.
Nothing web-based works there, of course, but perhaps that's part of the reason why I'm more productive.
Plus, I miss it. It was a really comfortable system to use and program for. They had high standards.
The MacOS X Finder is so full of bugs now that it is almost unusable.
It's infuriating how far quality standards have fallen.
And here's the video showcasing the realtime decode
I moved to a smaller provider in Canada (easymail.ca). I heard enough things about Proton that I wanted to avoid it, and I haven't looked at fastmail, so I can't comment on it.
Before I was on gmail, I used to run a mail server in my closet on System 7, with Eudora accessing it via POP3. None of the ISPs will let you do this any more, and self-hosting mail is *really hard* now.
If the screen completely dies, I'll look into this and see how hard it will be to get a replacement driver board. So far, it only flickers in intensity for the first 10 minutes after powering on.
The hardest part now is that Ebay and other US-centric marketplaces are increasingly closed off due to all of the trade issues that are making it difficult or cost prohibitive to ship to Canada.
It seems to be a trend for web sites to render perfectly, then a second later replace the contents with a blank screen and some text saying that "something went wrong". Console says something about a regex error.
Javascript was a huge mistake.
Ohh, nice! Did you get to use a drum scanner at all?
Yep! most DICOM DX and XA files have 4096 levels of gradiation!
One good manufacturer for these was Barco. Search for "Barco grayscale":
I finally was able to get 100% off of Google services. Really don't like the mail UI on the new service, and there are a few features I miss, but it is so relieving to not have AI crap being pushed on me from every angle.

Oh. my. goodness. It is CRAZY right now. Over $1000 CDN for 64 GB DDR4 RDIMM.
Best displays I ever used were a couple of 21 inch grayscale CRT displays designed for medical radiology imagery reading. They were so easy on my eyes. I got rid of them because they were so heavy and hot, but I still miss them.
I got four years of life out of it, so that's not too bad.
The hardest part will be finding what to purchase as a replacement. It took me months of research to find this display model (with one mistake before that, where I got one that claimed to be better in the specs, but was actually far worse). I can't just buy another one, because it is no longer obtainable.
It's hard to find the best display, and since I stare at it for >80 hours a week, it's really important for my health.
Sigh. It looks like the backlighting on my main display is starting to go.
One thing that I miss about Twitter back before the muskpocolypse was that you could complain directly to the brand and make a lot of noise and do a little damage to their reputation when they pulled stuff like this.
Big business did *not* like this, and that's one of the reasons why Twitter was not allowed to continue to exist.
Ross, GV and even Tek are so much better with respect to after purchase customer support.
Perhaps I should consider selling some of the Evertz equipment I have while it still has some value, and buy replacements from another company that doesn't pull these kind of games.
Evertz is giving me a big middle finger. I went to log into my support account to download a manual, and it said my account didn't exist. So I figured, I haven't used it for a while, so perhaps that's why, so I'll just re-register.
I re-register and it says "pending moderator approval", but I didn't receive any further notifications. Checked a few days later, and the account has been deleted again.
Tried a second time, same results.
Extremely customer hostile behaviour.
