Like all generations, Gen-Z thinks they invented everything that's new to them. But I've got humbling news for you, kids: Us old folks were also doing stupid things for stupid reasons. It's been that way for thousands of years, and always will be.

@Hippasus500 Not sure what you mean. An enterprise site, sure; that requires constant expert management. But a basic informational website is just text plugged into a template that needs little maintenance. Usually, you're just renting the template from the host anyway, and they're the ones maintaining it, because that's in their interests. That's all Facebook is, after all.

@Firlefanz Reminds me of the stuff we used the mock the Soviets for.

@ruuster13 I don't anticipate she has any intention to "contribute to society" by this. More likely, the opposite. She comes from a family of shady grifters, and I have no reason to believe she's any different. Well-armed grifters are just more dangerous, not better for society.

@crk5 It already is, and it hasn't even been built yet.

@esghound.com Right. BUT. This is part of a larger GOP scheme. An extremely evil and cynical one, but one that can actually work.

The GOP has finally realized that there's pretty much no bullshit their supporters won't believe. Propagandists tell them what to believe, and they do, no matter what the actual facts are.

They will blame Democrats. They already are. And their supporters will believe it. That combined with their suffering may end US democracy for good.

@stevenaleach It all sounds so abusive to me. It's incredible to me that anyone puts up with it.

@anne_twain For-profit anything does what they believe they can get away with. It's like this because our regulatory structure sucks. The forced move to Win11, with hard sunset for Win10 and forced hardware requirements, should have been illegal.

@draken Anyone can use LibreOffice on pretty much any OS. You don't need Linux to run it.

But I would indeed encourage people to ditch MS altogether, if they can. This abusive relationship is only going to get worse for users, never better, and no one actually needs to put up with it. They're just conditioned to believe they do.
