Ah, the good old days just aren't what they used to be.

A cartoon with a group of cave men and women sitting around a fire. One caveman is saying, "We used to huddle together in the cold for shared warmth, Fire kills real human connection."

Where's MAGA?

An AI-generated image depicting a vibrant, bustling rural marketplace filled with hundreds of people browsing stalls laden with colorful produce and artisanal crafts. A lone individual wearing a bright red baseball cap with the embroidered text "WHERE'S MAGA" stands slightly off-center amidst the crowd, subtly blending into the scene. Most of the other shoppers are dressed in muted earth tones and appear engaged in friendly conversations, creating a dynamic yet welcoming atmosphere. Soft sunlight streams through the canvas awnings overhead, casting warm shadows across the marketplace and illuminating the diverse array of goods on display.

I just realized "Appeal to Pop Culture Reference" is an actual logical fallacy people do. Using fictional events in a book or movie as evidence to support an argument. Now that I've seen it I'll probably notice it everywhere.

Oops, I accidentally deleted an audio overview I wanted to keep online: Stories, Features, and AI Navigation

It covers the following.
- The Feature Space as a model for intelligence
- How AI models can help us understand human cognition
- Storytelling is navigation through a multimodal feature space
- Shared patterns are the building blocks of narrative

Well, this is going to be a thing eventually—the all AI ASMR video based on a niche theme. This were some clips I generated with

I asked Veo 2 what an isekai-inspired slime with a purple mana core would look like in an ASMR video. Don't worry, the slime is fine as long as you don't damage the core.

With all the talk about Veo 3 I realized I never tried the previous version of Google's video model. I made some isekai-inspired ASMR clips and I'm a bit disappointed I haven't been making these all along.

Note to self: Don't let your newsletter become a summary of the social media you consume. It's the online equivalent of calling your parents and chatting about what's on the TV.

A call-to-action button that reads, "Subscribe to my newsletter!"
Below text reads, "Read my weekly article that summarizes the Tweets I agree with."

My current definition for AGI:
> An Artificial General Intelligence is a system whose marginal cost of acquiring any economically valuable specialization falls below the opportunity cost of a human learning the same skill, thereby removing biological specialization as a binding constraint on productivity.

A digital flower with the text, "AGI, An Artificial General Intelligence is a system whose marginal cost of acquiring any economically valuable specialization falls below the opportunity cost of a human learning the same skill, thereby removing biological specialization as a binding constraint on productivity."

Yelling into the void:
Why don't more food companies understand that 99.9% of the time when I'm looking at the back of the package, I'm looking for the cooking instructions. I need numbers—400 degrees for 7-10 minutes. Make that big, easy to read, and effortless to find WITHOUT MY READING GLASSES.

Don't hide it. Make it prominent. I don't need to read the lame story of your company. I want you to be the kind of company that takes five minutes to think about what I need from you.

Today I was figuring out the different zones of a printed playing card. Why does the border area of a playing card need to be smaller than the "safe zone"? Even though it's guaranteed to print if it's in the safe zone, it might still be too close to the edge.

An image showing four important zones in a printed card: bleed zone, trim line, safe zone, and border area.

In organizations, high employee competence compensates for structural dysfunction.

In a warmly lit office, stressed employees hunch over cluttered desks under the glow of soft, inviting light, papers scattered around them, creating a chaotic yet familiar scene. In the background, a large poster reads "In organizations, high employee competence compensates for structural dysfunction."

ChatGPT really knows how to sweet-talk me:

> Reductionism assumes the world is flat—but complex systems operate on curved, folded, nested topologies of causality and constraint.

> This is where Levin’s move to Platonic form-space gets really spicy.

This is now my answer to any conspiracy theorist I ever encounter. I will just deny their existence. They are obviously a psyop of some foreign adversary or an alien plot to cover-up their invasion plans.

A photo of a man with sunglasses and a mustache, wearing a patterned shirt and a necklace. He is holding a sign that says "Conspiracy Theorists Aren't Real". The background is a crowd of people. There is a meme text overlay that says "When you realize the conspiracy is about conspiracy theories".

I can't take credit for this gag. An AI gave me this piece of advice during a study of great first lines.

I do love a good 2x2. What skills do you need? It depends on your terrain and time horizon.

The Skills Compass is basically the Cynefin framework simplified for individuals. I personally focus on adaptation skills which makes me a great problem-solver in a team environment. On my own I have trouble operating in the other domains.

A two by two grid showing four main skills: Explore, Analyze, Adapt, and Execute.
The column headers show two types of terrain: Uncertain and Certain. Uncertain includes the skills Explore and Adapt. Certain includes the skills Analyze and Execute.
The row labels show two types of horizon: Short Term and Long Term. Short Term includes the skills Adapt and Execute. Long Term includes the skills Explore and Analyze.

When I was a teenager I would order the J Peterman Catalog just to read the description of clothing I could never afford to buy. I feel like this should just become a new form of fiction. All you need is an image editor, an AI image generator for the illustration, and an ambiance.

An illustration of a cloak with intricate golden embroidery in the style of The J. Peterman Company. The cloak is primarily dark blue with golden patterns of leaves and possibly other flora. The cloak has a distinctive golden clasp or brooch in the center.

"He arrived with the dusk and was gone before the wine was poured. No one remembered his face, only the way the air seemed to shift when he passed—a faint ripple, like a half-forgotten dream. He left no footprints, no shadow, no name.

"For those who live between moments, who walk unseen paths and speak in whispers, this is not clothing. It is permission to disappear.

"Slip away. Leave only the echo."
