I really tried to like the laptop. Screen is good, form factor is good, light enough for a gaming laptop that traveling with it was fine. It's a sharp looking laptop.

But I want to especially mention the keyboard. In 3 years I still haven't got used to it. The spacing & key travel are just awkward. The ` and \ keys are narrower than all the others because they butt up to to the speakers. I wouldn't recommend the

Here's a review of my 2022 14 inch#Ryzen / RTX 3070 laptop that I've had for 3 years: IT STINKS. It is the worst laptop I've had in my 30 years of laptop-having.
1 Keyboard is terrible.
2) Battery life is terrible, even with Optimus turned on.
3) 14 months in, laptop wouldn't turn on and had to sent to Razer, thankfully I got the extended plan.
4) To this day sometimes it doesn't turn on, requiring me to hold power button and then try again.
5) WiFi died, replaced "gamer" Wifi with Intel.

And my mom still texts me regularly about the daily picture, so mission accomplished :)

Her medical prognosis is much, *much* better than it was in January.

I've updated my hedgehog-generating website, thedailyhedge.com, with a new workflow.

I switched from to Chroma, and the results have been pretty interesting. Prompt adherence is better, but the simple prompts that my random generator creates weren't as effective with Chroma. I added a local LLM step that takes the basic prompt and makes it more descriptive, which gives Chroma something to sink its teeth into.

@SheHacksPurple But have you tried sfc /scannow? It has never fixed anything for me ever, and it is always the first troubleshooting step.

Wayland and systemd are both symptoms of the same behaviour, as was PulseAudio:

  • Observe that an existing system has flaws.
  • Don't engage with users to identify use cases.
  • Throw up some half-finished code (with incomplete or nonexistent backwards compatibility) that solves some of the problems of the old system but doesn't address all of its use cases and introduces more problems for other people.
  • Declare that the old thing is deprecated and everyone needs to move to the new thing.
  • Create a load of work in the rest of the ecosystem that other people have to do.
  • Silence all criticism by pointing out that the old thing was imperfect.

And that's the kind of thing that you can only get away with if you're able to act as a monopoly, by employing maintainers at key points across the ecosystem.

The biggest problem with Microsoft was not that their monopoly allowed them to be evil, it was that it allowed them to be stupid. A lot of things in the MS ecosystem are actually bad for Microsoft, but they're pushed out because no one inside MS cares enough to do the right thing and no one outside is able to fix the problems. I, personally, don't want the F/OSS OS ecosystem to end up like that.

aha! looks like they WERE in fact 3D rendered! even to the point of using a human figure as an origin point for the camera to make it look like you were actually looking at a desk top

@scummvm I remember trying this game (demo version?) on a Mac when I was a kid. I don't think I even managed to jump over the first enemy with the sharp tooth/claw thing.

A whole new world. A new fantastic point of view.

A young physics professor named Lester conducts a particle experiment. Suddenly, something goes wrong, lightning strikes, and in a moment Lester finds himself in a strange alien world.

Now he must fight for his life in this strange place. Luckily, he'll find help along the way..

The ScummVM Team is pleased to announce full support for Out of this World (aka Another World).

Dear Fedi friends,

I'm really proud to share with you a video I made: "Introducing the Fediverse: a New Era of Social Media" https://news.elenarossini.com/fediverse-video/

In this 4-minute video I explain what the #fediverse is to people not familiar with it, mentioning some of its great features and benefits (interoperability, no ads, no surveillance...) and I set it in contrast to the world of Big Tech social platforms. I argue that, with the rise of Big Tech oligarchs and the current political climate, there has never been a better time to join the fediverse.

I hope you will enjoy this video and that you will find it useful (maybe as a tool to introduce your friends, family, colleagues, school administrators, local government officials to it).

The fediverse has truly changed my life, making me a better, more empowered digital citizen. I am endlessly grateful for it, so this is my contribution to the cause ❤️

I am also incredibly thankful for the work of @samaaberg and @patel.riyen who helped me bring my vision to life with their amazing cinematography skills and their assistance throughout the process, providing brilliant feedback to the script / edits from the POV of fedi newbies.

And I was also moved by the generous help of people of the Fediverse who volunteered to translate the script into many foreign languages: @jan @fritjof @erikkemp @sknob @severin @clabru @tarcisiosurdi @hongminhee @danielcasanueva @ainali @nacly

Lastly, I'm thankful for the opportunity I had to premiere the video last week at #FediForum - thank you @j12t and @anca

The video is up on my self-hosted PeerTube instance (thank you @yunohost) and for now it is unlisted as I have no idea how my VPS will hold up. I also included an alternate location in the blog post.

I hope you'll enjoy it! It's been a real labor of love (a month of full time work on it)... I see it as my love letter to the fediverse 💌

Edit/update: THANK YOU for all the people who volunteered to have their avatar show up in the last shot. There were 750+ submissions and only 135 spots - sorry I couldn't include everyone 🥲

I'm really excited about auroras tonight!! I'll be watching this website to see where they are visible: aurorasaurus.org/

Currently, lots of people in northern-tier US states and southern UK reporting they can't see auroras. But maybe it'll get better?

And maybe, just maybe, I'll manage to stay awake until it's dark.

did you know that if you install python3, then use pip to install yt-dlp, you can use it to download tiktok videos?
and did you also know that you can set up an apple shortcut to take whatever url you are currently looking at, ssh into a computer that has yt-dlp installed, and run yt-dlp on the url?

and did you know that computer can be a web host, and you can download the video into a public directory?

and did you know that if you drop this one html file onto that phblic directory it turns all the video files into a nice web based playlist?
