New Year's plant hunt done. 4 flowering plants spotted. Mostly daisies, plus a white dead nettle, dandelion and a buttercup
I own a tiny little coffee roastery in South Yorkshire, UK. Also studying environmental science and spend the rest of my time thinking about plants. Owned by many cats. More questions than answers, always exploring. Occasionally post insects without CW so don't follow if you're bug averse!

@Broadfork Ologies. It's great hearing people with passion for a subject talk about it. Even when the subject is something I'm not interested in I find it fascinating.
It’s started!
The BSBI #NewYearPlantHunt
If you are in Britain or Ireland and can get out over the next 4 days to spot what’s in flower near you you can submit the info
https://bsbi.org/new-year-plant-hunt/sending-in-your-new-year-plant-hunt-records
(Via an app) so the Botanical society of Britain and Ireland can collate the info.

This is a really good essay.
These days, every time I see the line “but there is still hope” in some article about, for instance, mass extinction, I grimace and disengage. https://mastodon.social/@urlyman/111923259230298979
The Guardian did a profile of Anne-Marie Bonneau, who organises sewing bees to make reusable produce bags from upcycled fabric.

In 2025 the biggest superpower will be the ability to be hopeful and optimistic. Not as a way of avoiding the hard stuff, but in the sense of knowing that change is possible, that nationalism and tribalism can be defeated, and that dystopia is not a preordained fate.

@buffyleigh @Steffi I had no idea about that! I don't need glasses currently but I'll try to remember that info for the next time I have an eye test
@Steffi Hello! I lost my mother before I had a chance to ask about all this too. I remember her going through hot flashes though, she always had a paper fan in her bag but I was a kid and I’ve only connected those things in hindsight!
I think sugar is a trigger for me too, I notice more anxiety and hot flashes after eating too much sugar.
Notice: Slight delay on eastbound line.
