I'm particularly thinking about whether we'll see more product managers this year. I've long pushed for better collaboration between architecture/development and product management, so @xinyao and johncutlefish@mastodon.social giving a joint keynote is a fantastic development and a great sign.

This emphasis on better collaboration between these diciplines was the inspiration for my 'Domain-Driven Design for Product Management' course. - 2/

Good news for those interested: my Domain-Driven Design for Product Management course on June 23rd and 24th in Utrecht (in Dutch) is confirmed and running!

Meanwhile, I'm heading to @dddeu today. Kicking off with my hands-on collaborative modeling lab with @yellowbrickc, @__maxs__ and @hschwentner which seems to be full! It's always a highlight of the year, and I'm keen to see who's attending. - 1/3

Something special is happening in two weeks at @dddeu. We're running a hands-on session where we'll tackle one problem using four distinct collaborative modelling tools: Domain Storytelling, EventStorming, Wardley Mapping, and Domain Message Flow Modelling.

@yellowbrickc, @__maxs__, @hschwentner, or myself will facilitate one of the tools (can you guess which?).

Vlad Khononov book on DDD is a staple today and it's great that we get to have him as a guest at @virtualddd
He will be talking about how the balanced coupling model can help with over and under-engineering, can't wait!

There are days when Life shows you the 🖕. I still don't know how to process this fast and easy so that the challenge now is to understand why it was possible? I must do this somehow without doubting in my own capability to read people.

I need to be very clear, that the push towards "vibe coding" - that is, deliberately deskilling people - is because AI code assistants are an (increasingly expensive) subscription service.

If you know how to code, you can just write Python, C, Java, R, PHP, whatever for free and make things. You may not own the tools of production, but at least you're not renting them.

If you have been deskilled so you only know how to vibe code, you will be paying for that privilege forever.

This also goes, by the way, for researchers who are starting to be convinced they don't need to learn how to be scientists anymore, because "the AI" can just do the science for them. Nope.

Googly eyes make everything better

Photo of a Wall Station emergency eye/face wash with instructions on how to wash your face. The visual instructions that show a person pouring water on themselves has googly eyes added, but it makes it look like the eyes are being washed right off their face.

A reminder: If due process is taken away from "illegal aliens" it is effectively taken away from you, as well.

The authorities can just say, "You're an illegal alien" and how can you prove otherwise? No, you can't just get your papers or whatever - there's no due process, so they won't even look. After all, you're an illegal alien, so you don't have due process.

Due process for everyone protects you.

And don't say they won't use it against you - fascists always turn on their own eventually.

Everything wrong with the Wikipedia is something that is just generally wrong with working with humans.

My experience with the Wikipedia included being harassed white nationalists because I edited their creepy "Race and IQ" article. A very ugly experience. I did not feel supported or protected by "the wikipedia community" --

Despite this, I STILL think it's one of the best resources on the internet. That Mr. Musk wants to destroy it only makes me more confident this is correct.

My team at Internet Archive has 3 open roles: a senior product manager (we build web and digital preservation services for mission-aligned memory and cultural heritage institutions), a senior AI engineer (exploring how we might use AI/ML to better surface human-authored content to humans), and a (non-senior) backend software engineer.

If you want to help keep this ember glowing and growing, and are up for some unique challenges, please apply!

9/11 and covid are an interesting dichotomy that represents how collective grief can be enhanced or suppressed by propaganda depending on what are the political interests
"Never forget" x "It's over, get back to normal"

Reply from user PurpleNinjaGrrl:
Ever think about how 22 years post-9/11 we still can't bring 4 ounces of sunscreen and a nail clipper onto a plane, and yet 3 years into an ongoing pandemic we're able to walk around a cancer treatment center maskless? I sure do.

PurpleNinjaGrrl: I don't demand a perfect world I just want a world that can install hepa filters in schools and hospitals with the same expediency that we installed enhanced security screening facilities in every international airport in the world.

This talk introduces unpublished modelling patterns designed to elegantly handle causality between Bounded Contexts while minimising coupling. If your system is or is becoming modular, these patterns will prove valuable to preserve your teams' autonomy!

System design is at the nexus of various design arenas and their focal disciplines — because trade-offs don’t “stay in their lane.” (For example, “technical” decisions have social consequences in sociotechnical systems.)
