Yuri Dojc is a photographer and artist whose work spans various forms of visual art. He has an extensive career, beginning with commercial photography and later transitioning to become a keen observer of history’s most vulnerable people.

His current practice focuses on capturing remnants of the past, often with artistic and poignant perspectives.

Today we take time to remember the people known as the Greatest Generation: the Canadians who fought in WW II.

I had the privilege of photographing a group of these war veterans, all over 100 years old for a project I started a few years ago, The Last Salute.

Amongst other things, @GreatDismal accurately predicted shitty Instagram filters (Count Zero, 1986)

Most phone programs were equipped with cosmetic video subprograms written to bring the video image of the owner into greater accordance with the more widespread paradigms of personal beauty, erasing blemishes and subtly molding facial outlines to meet idealized statistical norms. The effect of a cosmetic program on the Finn’s grotesque features was definitely the weirdest thing Bobby had ever seen, as though somebody had gone after the face of a dead gopher with a full range of mortician’s crayons and paraffin injections.

I had the great privilege in 2005 to photograph the last two living Canadian World War I Veterans, Dwight Wilson and Victor (Lloyd) Clement. Today, on Vimy Ridge Day, we salute and remember the valour of Canadian soldiers who took part in that war.
