it's maddening.
Digital artist, photographer, musician and programmer to some capacity. Former demoscener.
Currently lost in the sauce and unsure how to get out.
Will post stuff that's either: Bunny Adjacent, NSFW art, or technology/computing related.

Now, you might be wondering: how does Nina's favourite tool, "looking at the raw pixels", holds up with such a weird image format - with image divided into blocks of 3x3 pixels? I tell you, it holds up super well. Surprisingly so.
First, I got the EXE file that I got after compiling my sources, and opened it in GIMP. With the 1bpp reading and "bitmap" aligned by the word boundary all I can tell is that there _are_ images in the file.
Playing with the dimensions hints that the resolution is either 150 or a fraction of it (50, 300, etc).
With word-aligned things, there's a trick that sometime works: trying to treat the data as some sort of 16-bit image format. 16 bit greyscale might work, but it usually maps everything into the same "grey" area that requires a lot of "level editing" later. 16 bit per pixel RGB, in this case, looks super cool. It is _not_ the exact image I store in the file (remember, I have 1bpp?), but I can _see_ what is in the image.
@ai6yr clearly you have no idea what you’re dealing with

One of the obvious ideas to speed up full screen redraws at the cost of the resolution is to use Speccy-style pseudographics. With 2x2 graphic blocks in the font, I can have an effective resolution of 100x50 pixels.
But due to the secondary screen buffer organisation I technically can address ~2560 font glyphs.
I can easily implement pseudo-graphics with blocks 2x4 or 4x2 - this will give me 100x100 or 200x50 pixels. I wish I could do 4x4, but that'd require 65k glyphs, and I don't have that many.
And then I thought: why not 3x3? That's merely 512 glyphs. Ideally I'll have them in a 15x15 font file, but I thought it could work even with 16x16 font, just the middle line and the middle column would have to be a bit larger that the others.
I technically can add 2x2, 4x2 AND 2x4 pseudo-graphics, in the font file without going out of my video RAM budget. I could even add diagonal blocks and a set of large letters, maybe. But for the time being, I prefer to err on the side of simplicity, and keep it 150x75.

I hear there's another swell of newcomers to the Fediverse / Mastodon. I have no idea what "forkiverse" means, but new people means an opportunity for a reminder:
There is no algorithm here. You see nothing but the posts from accounts and hashtags you follow, and things that those accounts boost.
This means: use the boost button! Liberally! Clicking "favourite" just gives a private thumbs-up to the poster, and has no effect on anything else. The boost button is what makes things happen in the fediverse. It's how you get exposed to new things. It's how you find interesting new people and subjects to follow. It's how you learn fascinating stuff about subjects you didn't know existed from people you don't know, half a world away.
Boost. Boost often. If it's interesting, boost it. If you think others should see it, boost it. If it makes you laugh, boost it.
Boosting isn't rude. It doesn't make you like the bloviating arsehole in that workshop who thinks everyone came to hear the sound of his voice. You aren't monopolizing peoples' feeds, or manipulating them.
We need it. Please boost things!
