Il Tempo: Comunicato Stampa: MILANO-TORINO: 150 ANNI DI STORIA A PEDALI

Alle 6.00 di sabato mattina 14 marzo un nutrito gruppo di impavidi ciclisti partirà da Magenta per celebrare il 150° anniversario della Milano-Torino, la corsa ciclistica più antica del mondo. La prima edizione, infatti, venne organizzata dal Veloce Club Milano il 25 maggio del 1876. Degli 8 atleti al via solo 4 raggiunsero il traguardo, con il vincitore Paolo Magretti giunto a Torino dopo 10 ore e 9 minuti di estenuante pedalata su strade che non erano certo quelle lisce e confortevoli di oggi.
La rievocazione del 14 marzo precede di pochi giorni la corsa ufficiale giunta alla 107^ edizione, in programma mercoledì 18 marzo con partenza da Rho e arrivo a Superga. Una cinquantina di ciclisti con tenute e bici rigorosamente storiche – organizzati dalla Nuova Unione Velocipedistica Italiana, dall'Associazione Velocipedi Italiani, dal Museo del Ghisallo e dall'Automotoclub Storico Italiano - affronteranno un percorso di 180 km, con un dislivello complessivo di 1.300 metri, che li porterà alla sede ASI di Villa Rey a Torino, con l'arrivo previsto alle ore 17.00 dopo aver effettuato gli ultimi passaggi a Superga e al Motovelodromo. Tra gli ospiti saranno presenti Marino Vigna, vincitore della Milano-Torino 1966, e Italo Zilioli, campione torinese grande protagonista del ciclismo anni '60 e '70.
La rievocazione della Milano-Torino fa parte degli eventi che contraddistinguono le celebrazioni del 60° Anniversario dell'ASI. Fondato nel 1966, l'Automotoclub Storico Italiano rappresenta il riferimento nazionale per il settore del motorismo storico ed è sempre più orientato alla tutela e alla promozione di tutto ciò che concerne l'evoluzione della mobilità e della locomozione, abbracciando anche il mondo del ciclismo con la nascita della specifica Commissione Velocipedi.

Press Release: MILAN-TURIN: 150 YEARS OF CYCLE HISTORY

At 6:00 AM on Saturday, March 14th, a sizable group of intrepid cyclists will depart from Magenta to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Milan-Turin race, the world’s oldest cycling competition. The first edition, in fact, was organized by the Veloce Club Milano on May 25th, 1876. Of the 8 athletes starting, only 4 reached the finish line, with the winner Paolo Magretti arriving in Turin after 10 hours and 9 minutes of grueling cycling on roads that were certainly not the smooth and comfortable ones of today.

The recreation of March 14th precedes the official race by a few days, arriving at its 107th edition, scheduled for Wednesday, March 18th with a start from Rho and an arrival at Superga. Approximately fifty cyclists with strictly historical attire and bikes – organized by the Nuova Unione Velocipedistica Italiana, the Associazione Velocipedi Italiani, the Museo del Ghisallo, and the Automotoclub Storico Italiano – will tackle a 180 km route with a total altitude gain of 1,300 meters, leading them to the ASI headquarters at Villa Rey in Turin, with an expected arrival at 5:00 PM after completing the final passages at Superga and the Motovelodromo. Among the guests will be Marino Vigna, winner of the Milan-Turin in 1966, and Italo Zilioli, a prominent Turin cyclist who was a major protagonist of cycling in the 1960s and 70s.

The recreation of the Milan-Turin is part of the events that distinguish the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the ASI. Founded in 1966, the Automotoclub Storico Italiano represents the national reference for the historical motorsport sector and is increasingly focused on the protection and promotion of everything related to the evolution of mobility and locomotion, embracing the world of cycling with the creation of the specific Commissione Velocipedi.

Il Tempo: #Mattarella: laurea honoris causa a Firenze e lectio sulla democrazia

L'università di Firenze ha conferito al Presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella la laurea magistrale honoris causa in "Politica, Istituzioni e Mercato". La cerimonia si è svolta al Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, nell'ambito delle celebrazioni del 150 anniversario della Scuola di Scienze politiche 'Cesare Alfieri'. Un gesto che significa tributare al Capo dello Stato "il riconoscimento di figura esemplare della cultura istituzionale italiana, simbolo di come le cariche pubbliche debbano essere interpretate nel rispetto dei valori costituzionali, del dialogo e della competenza". Mattarella come "modello concreto e ispiratore di servizio pubblico" per gli studenti, ma soprattuto di rigore democratico e responsabilità istituzionale.
Il titolo è stato consegnato dalla rettrice Alessandra Petrucci che "a nome di tutta la Comunità accademica" ha espresso gratitudine per il suo ruolo di rappresentanza dell'Italia nel mondo "con saggezza, equilibrio, preparazione ed esempio". Al termine della cerimonia il Capo dello Stato ha tenuto una lectio magistralis, partendo dal ricordo di Silvano Tosi, il"primo allievo e poi docente autorevole della Cesare Alfieri". Mattarella ha quindi ribadito l'importanza dei partiti politici nel paese, che rappresentano "il motore della rinascita democratica dell'Italia", per poi soffermarsi sul valore della persona nella società. 
"La tecnologia e la scienza sembrano avere oggi bisogno soprattutto di un nuovo e vigoroso apporto di carattere umanistico, di una nuova ricomposizione della unicità del sapere, sempre più avvertita e concretamente sviluppata da discipline che un tempo apparivano estranee le une alle altre - ha detto il Quirinale - Vi è l'esigenza di rimettere al centro la persona, i valori umani e universali, il senso di comunità che accresce il valore delle relazioni tra le persone, nel rispetto e del reciproco riconoscimento di dignità e di diritti". Di qui il richiamo alle intuizioni profetiche di Tocqueville: "La più inquietante per il nostro tempo è forse quella che prevede un futuro oscillante fra la libertà democratica e la tirannide cesarista". E l'appello: "Non lasciamo che questo avvenga, che si realizzi una simile regressione".

Mattarella: honorary degree in Florence and lecture on democracy

The University of Florence awarded President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella an honorary master’s degree *honoris causa* in “Politics, Institutions and Market.” The ceremony took place at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, as part of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the ‘Cesare Alfieri’ School of Political Science. A gesture that signifies recognizing the Head of State “as an exemplary figure of Italian institutional culture, a symbol of how public office should be interpreted with respect for constitutional values, dialogue, and expertise.” Mattarella as a “concrete and inspiring model of public service” for students, but especially of democratic rigor and institutional responsibility.

The degree was presented by Rector Alessandra Petrucci who, “on behalf of the entire academic community,” expressed gratitude for his role as representation of Italy in the world “with wisdom, balance, preparation and example.” At the end of the ceremony, the Head of State delivered a lecture, starting with the memory of Silvano Tosi, the “first student and then authoritative teacher of Cesare Alfieri.” Mattarella then reiterated the importance of political parties in the country, which represent “the engine of Italy’s democratic rebirth,” before focusing on the value of the individual in society.

“Technology and science seem today to need especially a new and vigorous contribution of humanistic character, a new rebalancing of the uniqueness of knowledge, increasingly felt and concretely developed by disciplines that once appeared foreign to each other – stated the Quirinal – There is a need to put the person, human and universal values, the sense of community that increases the value of relationships between people, with respect and mutual recognition of dignity and rights.” Consequently, reference was made to the prophetic insights of Tocqueville: “Perhaps the most unsettling for our time is that which foresees a fluctuating future between democratic freedom and Caesarist tyranny.” And the appeal: “Let us not allow this to happen, let us ensure that such a regression does not take place.”

Every prior commissioner has emphasized player opportunity, and given that the PGA Tour is a “players organization” this made sense. It further made sense because professional golf is the only sport where the difference between the #1 player and the #150th player is a rounding error and in every other sport it is a chasm.

At the very time the PGA Tour should be expanding it is constricting, becoming less about accessibility and more exclusivity, which undermines its goals of being all about meritocracy.
