Playing the Field is the fifth album by American jazz vocalist Mark Murphy and his third for Capitol Records. It was recorded in 1960, when Murphy was 28 years old, and released by the Capitol Records label in the United States in 1960. The album is a collection of pop tunes and standards performed with a jazz band.

Buddy DeSylva's "Wishing (Will Make It So)" is from 1939's Love Affair co-starring Charles Boyer and Irene Dunne. "Put the Blame on Mame" is a song featured in the 1946 film noir Gilda in which Rita Hayworth lip synched to Anita Ellis' vocal recording. Apparently it was a Murphy favorite and he adds a few original lines. Murphy and Producer Tom Morgan thought it had potential to be a hit single but Capitol declined to release and promote it as a single. Murphy said, "By that time they had given up on me. They released the album and said Goodbye". - Wikipedia

The Many Moods of Ann Richards is the 1960 solo album recorded by Ann Richards and her second release for Capitol Records (Capitol T-T-1406, stereo). The arrangers for the sessions are Ralph Carmichael, Bill Holman, and Tak Shindo.

Jason Ankeny writes in AllMusic, "The Many Moods of Ann Richards captures the singer in a series of different contexts and styles, precisely the kind of project that could amount to little more than a patchwork mess in the hands of a lesser talent. But arrangers Ralph Carmichael, Bill Holman, and Tak Shindo all prove sympathetic collaborators, spotlighting Richards' smoldering vocals in milieus that perfectly complement her lusty vibrato." The review praises the blend of Holman's jazz and Shindo's Eastern exotica influences with Richards demonstrating confident versatile performances with both. - Wikipedia

Down Home Blues is an album by blues musicians Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry recorded in 1960 and released on the Bluesville label.

AllMusic reviewer Bruce Eder stated: "the music itself stands outside of time. McGhee's strumming and singing have enough polish to pass as a commercial recording, but at its best, it's still sufficiently unaffected so as to be regarded as authentic country-blues. It's Terry's harp, however, that really pulls this body of music back to its roots ... the dominant elements of this album are the charm and honesty that Terry and McGhee offer, whatever their particular style on a specific song; they had portions of both to spare by the bucketload, which accounts for the 15 years that they held audiences in their spell". - Wikipedia

The New Scene of King Curtis is an album by saxophonist King Curtis recorded for the New Jazz label in 1960. The album features Nat Adderley who performed under the pseudonym "Little Brother" on the original release due to contractual restrictions.

Eugene Chadbourne's review on AllMusic states: "for the 1960 recording, Curtis is accompanied by two-thirds of a famous Miles Davis rhythm section as well as a drummer who eventually became prominent on the Parisian swing scene ... Chambers and Kelly can not be too strongly emphasized as components of this brilliant group, carrying over their assets to the Curtis session as if shifting boxes from one side of a garage to another"

Taking Care of Business is an album by saxophonist Oliver Nelson recorded in 1960 and released on the New Jazz label.

Allmusic reviewer Scott Yanow stated: "Oliver Nelson would gain his greatest fame later in his short life as an arranger/composer but this superior session puts the emphasis on his distinctive tenor and alto playing ... Nelson remains a vastly underrated saxophonist and all six performances on this recommended CD reissue (four of them his originals) are excellent".- Wikipedia

The Two of Us Review by Dinah Washington And Brook Benton released in 1960 on Liberty.

Some wonderful duets between Brook Benton and Dinah but the opening track There Goes My Heart possibly my favourite is by the Queen of The Blues alone.

Standards with a Slight Touch of Jazz by by Lorez Alexandria released on the King label in 1960.

"Perhaps one of the straightest albums that Lorez ever cut -- but still pretty darn great! She's got a unique voice that's capable of being fairly smooth and mainstream, yet still manages to hit these wonderful soulful passages that transform any kind of material and makes it her own. That's definitely the case in this set, which features mostly standards (done with a "touch of jazz"), but which also move past the regular vocal jazz album of the time. There's a lot of deep soul in the best cuts -- and titles include "Better Luck Next Time", "Long Ago & Far Away", "Then I'll Be Tired Of You", and "Lush Life"" - Dusty Groove
