Big Girls Don't Cry:

"According to Bob Crewe, he was dozing off in his Manhattan home with the television on when he awoke to see Payne manhandling Fleming in Slightly Scarlet, a 1956 film noir based on a James M. Cain story. The line is heard in that film." - Wikipedia

Twistin' the Night Away is the eighth studio album by American singer-songwriter Sam Cooke. Produced by Hugo & Luigi, the album was released in April 1962 in the United States by RCA Victor. Twistin' the Night Away primarily capitalizes on the twist phenomenon and as a result became one of Cooke's most successful LPs, becoming his second to chart and creating a string of chart successes.

Bruce Eder of Allmusic wrote that while Cooke was "shoehorned" into doing twist numbers, it remains nevertheless "one of the great dance albums of its period," and "a brilliant soul album as well, which is why it holds up 40 years later." Melody Maker wrote that "Cooke was unique because he was one of the first black artists to keep a tight hand on the direction of his career and the profits thereof," calling the album's hit single a "dance-craze classic." - Wikipedia

Surfin' U.S.A. is the second studio album by the American rock band the Beach Boys, released March 25, 1963 on Capitol Records.

The majority of the album's recording commenced in the first week of 1963, three months after the release of Surfin' Safari. Like the group's debut album, production was credited ostensibly to Capitol's representative for Artists and Repertoire, Nick Venet, although bandleader Brian Wilson was heavily involved in the album's composition. The album marks the beginning of his practice to doubletrack vocals, resulting in a fuller sound. - Wikipedia

You Better Move On by Arthur Alexander, released on Dot in 1962.

You Better Move On Review by Ron Wynn

Arthur Alexander was a wonderful deep soul and country-influenced singer. He could express the urgency and longing of a soul artist and tell a story with the sensitivity and innocence of a great country artist. The title track as well as the other cuts on this greatest-hits work were his finest from the '60s. "Anna" and "You Better Move On" were turned into bigger hits by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

You're Mine You is a 1962 studio album by the American jazz singer Sarah Vaughan, orchestrated and conducted by Quincy Jones.

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album three stars and said that "Vaughan's voice is typically wondrous and sometimes a bit excessive on the ballads (some may find her slightly overblown version of 'Maria' a bit difficult to sit through) but in top form on the more swinging numbers." - Wikipedia

Hello Young Lovers is a studio album by singer Nancy Wilson issued in July 1962 on Capitol Records.

Hello Young Lovers was produced by Tom Morgan and arranged by Milt Raskin. George Shearing also arranged the strings and played harpsichord on the LP.

Billboard magazine noted that she "shows off her own, stylish way with a pop song on this album cover over a lush string choir" and declared that the "Lass does a fine job here". - Wikipedia

...And Then I Wrote is the debut studio album by country singer Willie Nelson, recorded during August and September 1962 and released through Liberty Records.

Nelson later recalled

First few days found me a little uneasy. I had my guitar, a pencil, and a blank notebook. Hank might throw out an idea, hoping it might spark something in me. When that didn't work, he might tell me a joke, or I might tell him one, hoping that joking would lead to some kind of song. It didn't...And one afternoon, after we had just sat around throwing the bull, he said, "I'm going to the office to make a few calls. You work on something by yourself."

By the time Cochran had returned from his phone call Nelson had written "Hello Walls" and sang it for him. "It's worth a fuckin' fortune," Cochran responded, adding, "Willie, my friend, you just wrote a hit."

The Cat Walk is an album by American trumpeter Donald Byrd recorded in 1961 and released on the Blue Note label in 1962 as BLP 4075.

The Allmusic review by Steve Leggett awarded the album 4 stars and stated "Trumpeter Donald Byrd and baritone saxophonist Pepper Adams worked together on several recordings between 1958 and 1961, and The Cat Walk is among the best... Byrd's playing throughout is typically sleek and lyrical, and Adams' sturdy, husky baritone sound is the perfect counterbalance, making The Cat Walk an essential Byrd purchase" - Wikipedia

Odetta and the Blues is an album by folk singer Odetta, released in 1962.

...Odetta had been coveting a movie role based on Bessie Smith's life and felt that releasing a blues album would be a good way to transition her public in accepting her as a blues singer. She recorded her Riverside album and her first album for RCA within 2 weeks of each other in April 1962.

Recorded as the 1950s/1960s American folk music revival was getting underway, the album is notable for Odetta's use of a jazz band on the record. - Wikipedia

Adventures in Jazz is a 1962 album by the Stan Kenton Orchestra.[1] The album won a Grammy Award in the category for Best Jazz Performance – Large Group (Instrumental) category in 1963. This was Kenton's second Grammy, after his first received for Kenton's West Side Story in 1962.

.."Turtle Talk" starts the album and is the "opening act" for Dee Barton as a composer and new trombonist for the Kenton Orchestra. Barton would later take the drum chair on the Kenton band showing the multi-talents he brought to the table for this group and later studio work he would do. Both "Turtle Talk" and "Waltz of the Prophets" use the same harmonic pallet of relying on augmented chords and whole tone scales....Barton later went on to fame (like other Kenton writers Pete Rugolo and Lennie Niehaus) as a composer for films such as Clint Eastwood's Play Misty for Me.. - Wikipedia
