"[more] days at the morisaki bookshop" – hm, nette geschichten, aber irgendwie bin ich "underwhelmed", weil ich mir mehr oder was anderes davon erwartet hatte. katzen kommen übrigens trotz der netten coverbilder nicht drin vor. #2024reads

Stattdessen meine Lesehighlights aus dem vergangenen Jahr, in zwei kurzen Videos präsentiert. Die meisten dieser Bücher sind queer.

In the end I read about 43 books in 2024, although some small local books will have quietly dropped off the list. I think I could have averaged one a week if I hadn't tackled The Count of Monte Cristo in August, but it was totally worth it.

#Bookstodon #BookRecommendations #2024reads

A collage of 43 book covers. Many of them covered in the thread. There is a mix of fiction and non fiction, including memoirs, local history art and railways, more general history and current affairs, books about cults, messy relationships, and that genre of laid back nature and geography books.

The book that I possible recommended most: "Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow" by Gabriele Zevin.

The books I wish I had the chance to recommend more: "Fremd" by Michel Friedman and "Nagori" by Ryoko Tagekuchi

Anything else you want to know about the list?

Books 2024

46 in total - slightly less than my original aim of 52, but more than I read any year since 2020 and second most since 2018.

Below some random statistics - glad to chat about any and all of the books.

And if, looking at the list, you are 100% convinced I will like a certain book, feel free to recommend.

Hi @bookstodon , what were your favourite #2024Reads ? I somehow finished 58 books this year (plus a few more out loud to the kids). Here are four of my faves: Ann Leckie's strangest, darkly funny, contribution to her remarkable sci fi universe; the improbably moving story of the vampire Pitt the Younger at war with the kraken-summoning Napoleon; a twisty late 20th century SFF classic; and the bizarre true story of the first functionally immortal human cell line. #Bookstodon

My 2024 book year wasn't big in regards to books read, or even in the length of books (the longest book I read was 648 pages), but big in ideas, in engaging narratives, in brilliant structure, in inspiration, and in enjoyment.

I read 36 books this year. A whole lot of them were T. Kingfisher. Nine new authors. Most of them women, trans, or nonbinary. Lots of series continuations. Lots of novellas. Lots of queer.

I was also able to see Rebecca Thorne when she came to The Legendarium!

And I read... so, so much fanfiction (of the Rocket Raccoon & Bucky Barnes variety--thou only once in the same story. Also? Are you surprised?! I'm nonbinary & full of trauma).

I bought a lot of books, thanks Under the Umbrella, The Legendarium, LibroFM and various thrift stores (reminder that the collecting of books is a different, though adjacent hobby to reading books).

I hope you read some great books this year, books that taught you things, made you feel seen or some catharsis. And may we all continue to fight against book bans, while we support authors & local bookstores!

Haruki Murakami. Die unheimliche Bibliothek
Wenige Seiten, wunderschöne Illustrationen und eine Geschichte von einem Albtraum. Leicht schaurig - heute werde ich dann wohl nicht in die Bibliothek gehen...

I made it to 31 books this year, with many in-progress (isn't that always the way?) A fun year for reading, including all of NYC in the Akashic Noir series, a lot of 33 1/3 (as usual).

If pressed to pick a single favorite, it would have to go to David Mitchell's Utopia Avenue, one of the best music-related works of fiction I've ever read. Everything listed here in alphabetical order by author.

What did you all read this year?
