Ukko is a god of the sky, weather (especially thunder), and the harvest in Finnish paganism. Though often invoked in myths, he rarely appears. Modern sources frequently call Ukko the king of the gods, though that may be an error caused by comparing him to the Greek god Zeus.

Captain Hook "had been at a famous public school. Its traditions still clung to him.... Above all he retained the passion for good form. Good form! However much he may have degenerated, he still knew that this is all that really matters."

In the Middle Ages, many people believed the classical philosophers and poets had been so wise that they must have mastered magic. Welsh sorcerers such as Ceridwen consulted the books of Aristotle and Virgil to learn how to cast their spells.

Thoth was an Egyptian moon god. The moon's phases made it pivotal in early astrology / astronomy, and its cycles organized much of Egyptian society's rituals and events. Thus, Thoth became seen as a god of wisdom, and of the measurement and regulation of events and time.

"Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space."

In Egyptian mythology, after the god Set killed his brother Osiris, he fought Osiris' son Horus for control of Egypt. Eventually, the supreme god Ra decided to give Set 97% of Egypt but let Horus choose his 3% first. Horus chose the fertile Nile Delta, leaving Set with the desert.

According to the Goetia, Paimon is a king of Hell commanding 200 demonic legions. He roars when summoned, and is accompanied by a retinue of demonic musicians. Paimon teaches all arts and sciences, and the mysteries of earth, air, and water. He also can control minds. Paimon rides a dromedary.

In Norse mythology, the greatest ship was Skíðblaðnir. It was owned by the god Freyr, and could carry all of the gods and their retinue over sea, land, and air, faster than any other ship. Skíðblaðnir could also be folded up, and put in Freyr's pocket when not needed.

European folklore is full of strange humanoids said to inhabit far-off lands, such as headless people with their faces in their chests, one-legged people who hop everywhere, people with ears so huge they use them as blankets, and people who run quickly despite having backwards feet.

Alexander the Great's famous warhorse Bucephalus was described as a huge black horse with a white star on his brow. According to legend, Bucephalus mated with mares all over Asia. Strangely, all foals birthed by Persian and Afghan mares had unicorn horns.

The only appearance of a unicorn in a medieval Welsh legend is a surprisingly savage creature that attacks any human it finds and drinks lakes dry, killing all the fish. Peredur (the Welsh Sir Percival) slays the unicorn, but then discovers it's the pet of a fairy lady.

In Arthurian legends, many of King Arthur's knights are so virtuous and devout that God grants them saintly miracles, such as prophetic visions or banishing demons. The most common miracle for these knights is the "laying on of hands" (healing people with a touch).

The Prose Edda says that the greatest physician and healer of the Norse gods is the goddess Eir (whose name means "protection" or "mercy"). She is apparently a good friend of Frigg, queen of the gods. Other sources describe Eir instead as either a valkyrie or a human.

The thumb was in, alack! Alack!
The door flew open, in he ran,
The great, long, red-legg'd scissor-man."
