The Pool (V 2.0) - 2015

No circularium for today, so I'm getting something from the arsenal. I've posted this panorama before definitely but rather in different formats I guess. This one here is done with RAW only, no HDR slides.
I'm thinking seriously to take a break from social media for some time, as I've been feeling drained a lot lately and I'm lagging behind with 2 projects that I wish to do (and guess what? I got an idea for a 3rd one but it'd be crazy to do so now).
Now, about this panorama, it's for the swimming pool in Dar ta' Żeppi B&B in Qala, Malta. Another version of this panorama included a cat!
I think I've shot this panorama maybe twice or thrice, with problems happening each time, mainly because the time of the shoot is when light is transiting from day to night which makes metering and exposure a bit awkward.

Circularium Litus (2012)

Something I've fished out from the archive again and I was lucky here to have the JPEGs (by-product) of the panorama (which I had to delete afterward). Because the stitching was based on JPEG files rather than HDR, the image initially was dull in terms of colors. I had to do a trick with changing color spaces twice (let's just call it "excitement of the color space" as how electrons are excited in their orbits to higher energy level).
Taking panoramas on the beach was a favorite activity of mine during winter, and man, did I freeze! Maybe the issue here is the lack of details in the sky, but that's the city for you. Even though in the original size, I remember seeing some dots and lines that are distinctively not part of the noise pattern.
By the way, the building at bottom center is a private hospital.

Circularium Roseus (2012).

Another "easy-to-make" target after finding some leftover by-product files. This one, again, is from the Victorian B&B on Staten Island. It's for the lounge. I honestly didn't find a specific and an interesting point to center this circular panorama with so I picked the chandelier to beat the center. The hard work, though, was with the colors, as the color space was hard to pin down and then managing the saturation and other aspects. There used to be yellow somewhere around here...

I've posted this panorama before but probably in another format and in HDR. This one here is done using the RAW files.
I couldn't manage to create a new circular panorama yesterday; fatigue and a busy day is such a disastrous mix. Actually, I've tried to create one quickly (from 2014 collection) but unfortunately, things didn't quite work out well, and I'm gonna need to do more steps and procedures. So, we'll see if I can manage to make one today!
This panorama here is for Inchagoill church on Inchagoill island in Loch Coirib (lough Corrib) in Co. Galway. It is said that the church was built by St Patrick himself. Actually, the name "Inchagoill" is the anglicization of "Inis an Ghaill" (island of the foreigner); supposedly that foreigner was St Patrick (but that's debated).

Circularium Umbra (2012)

Done this in a haste just few hours ago, and it had LOT of problems. You can already notice the jumbled carpet in the lower part as this was the tripod had and tried to fix the thing quickly here. The center of the panorama is me sitting on the stairs of the Victorian B&B. The original panorama was glowing with very saturated red; back then, I didn't have much knowledge about balancing colors and adjusting the white balance to the proper value (nor I had the tools for it), so this panorama proved to be a struggle now. I'm not completely satisfied about the tones, yet still better than the complete red one.

Circularium Arbor (2012)

I've posted the little planet version of this panorama, so now it's time for a circular one. I had one heck of a problem with this one, as the exposure and the colors were troublesome and I've needed a considerable time navigating through and fixing things.
My first choice to put in the center here was first the sky (zenith) and then the ground (nadir), and even the B&B itself, but all looked quite similar and not much different to the little planet format in some way. Changing the coordinates (and looking around) I've decided to center this circular panorama on this tree.

Planeta Victoria (2012);

So, I didn't have the time to work on a circular panorama, but I thought of posting this one today and I'm not sure if I did post it before or not. In case I did, apologies.
This is the Victorian B&B where I stayed back in 2012 in my visit to Staten Island. I remember shooting this panorama outside for 2 or 3 times and there was always a problem with the exposure range; when doing HDR one has to take care of such things. I think I've pinned it finally with the 3rd time.
Here we can see some differences in the type of distortions caused by this projection and the circular one. The main thing is, the circular panorama has a transparency layer to it specially in the corners, while this project actually forms the image in a square format (unless of course I change the POV and other parameters). If I get the time, I think I'll try to make this one in a circular panorama next.

Circularium Mesquita Magna (2011).

One of the panoramas that I like a lot for many things, mainly architectural in nature. I've spent a considerable time re-stitching this panorama yesterday, since I couldn't find any modeling files. However, I presume it is better to do this one in HDR anyway for the vivacity in colors and the control over the lighting of the place. This said, though, there was still lot of work needed to adjust and fix the colors tones. I would have rotated the camera to make the golden lines act as "gravity lines" emerging from the poles, but that would create some imbalance because of the other elements in the scene, so I had to keep it that way.
For the record, the center of the image is the dome, and the Quran in the glass cage is placed precisely under the dome; so to shoot this panorama, originally, I've stood steadily next to the glass cage and hoped for the best in terms of the overall symmetry.

Annulus Cahiri (2010).

Something off from the circle a bit for today, with this panorama done from the top of one of the towers of Cahir castle in Co. Tipperary. I've posted that panorama once and it was 360 degrees only (i.e. no vertical components, or in other words, it's a cylindrical panorama). The place was so narrow to place a tripod to begin with, so I was barely able to rotate camera on one level; in addition to the clutter and the not-so-interesting ground.
Anyway, because of this, the center of this circle is missing (which was supposed to be the top level of the panorama). The image was saved as PNG with transparency so the center is transparent (supposedly) too. Ironically, I do feel that it has somewhat 3D-ish look more than the regular panorama already.

Circularium Dominicus (2010);

I've posted a regular (equirectangular) panorama of this place, and I thought then let me try to do a circular one (since I had some time to waste of course). It was a problematic one kinda and since I followed a short cut and not my usual procedure, there were some mishaps (and errors). The next hurdle was to gauge the colors properly. The contrast made by the complimentary colors is OK I guess, yet I feel it can be more vivid than that (beside the blue being overwhelming a bit here).

So, no circularium for today. Had some hard time with my sleeping patterns lately, beside the things I need to do in this house.
Anyway, grabbing today a remake of one panorama from Ireland, from my 2nd visit back in 2010 to Cashel, Co. Tipperary. As usual, this remake is made from the RAW files instead of HDR slides.
I'm sure I've posted a panorama from this place here (actually done 2 in this place) but I'm sure which was posted before on here.
This place is a bit challenging because of the symmetry issue (as you can see from the pillars on the right but a wall to the left) and also for the lack of the details in the place, except for the intricate design of that gothic fenster or window (or maybe it's Romanesque?).

Galleria (3D) - 2015;

It's 3D Saturday! I don't do 3D panoramas much (and they are still experimental to me) but found this one from 2015, when there was a photography expo. I was a member of a photography group back then and we were invited to display some of our photos. I like the architecture and its symmetry though for such a 3D might not be much (it lacks details in general). The illusion of depth here is not vibrant, so to say, but probably you can get a glimpse of it from the ceiling arches. The benches also do look 3D-ish with some focus.

Circularium Samhna (2014)

Well, not Halloween yet (I guess?) but something for it in advance. One of the early panoramas that I've shot using infrared filter and a regular camera. The panorama was problematic for the lack of details in the sky, so the stitcher had a hard time putting things together. Originally, I did this manually, but now I'm re-doing it in a haste, so I didn't fix much about it (hence the foggy dirty look which I think serves the mysterious haunted look right). In the end, I've played around with the colors a bit, reversing the channels on the upper half of the sphere and leaving it as is in the lower half.
Thought on the side: How do they celebrate Halloween in the southern hemisphere? I mean the weather is getting colder and all of that which gives it a chill, but down there it is the opposite season (technically spring) and the night span is also different and all - hmm 🤔

Circularium Ovulum (2014);

From inside the Waterfront B&B. It is more of an oval than a circular panorama. Done from scratch and in a haste last night, so probably there rare some stitching errors here and there that I didn't pay attention to (and probably wouldn't fix for the lack of time!).
It was challenging to find a proper point of view for this one - as much as this panorama is somewhat interesting with its color scheme and organization in other formats, but here, it was hard to find something that catches my attention. I settled with this one, and finally in the post-process, I've squeezed it a bit to emphasize the oval shape a bit. I thought of rotating the image to make vertical like a standing egg, but it felt unbalanced (probably because of the stairs) so I left it as is.

Circularium Oculus (2014);

Another one almost made from scratch. I've posted this panorama before (in vertical format specifically) and it was for a path in Oughterard. Lucky to shoot it without any cars passing by during the work!
I had a REAL struggle with the color rendition despite working with HDR. In the end, even though I do like the greenish scheme, but decided to alter the colors in the same way I usually do with infrared images - I think it is more dreamy and fantasy-like right now!
Named it "oculus" (eye) as it looked like an eyeball. Typically with such panoramas I would center the image around the zenith or the nadir points (and this works usually for places where I can shoot with some kind of symmetry around the point where I stand and shoot), but with this countryside road, things were random, naturally, so I started to play around with the angle of view and this angle caught my eye as it looked like an eyeball (Kermit's eyeball to be specific!). One thing I'm still feeling not-so-ok about here is the white blank sky hat barely has any streak of details, but let's not delve into perfectionism here shall we.

Circularium Silva (2014);

Something from Ireland again, and probably all that could be seen here is some soil and trees; as they say, I couldn't see the forest because of the trees! I was lucky here to find the modeling files (in JPEG format), so I didn't have to do things from scratch. The downside here is that I don't have much freedom in controlling the lighting of the scene as is the case when doing everything from scratch from HDR files.
Other versions of this panorama were printed and some were published as well in some catalogs (I think in 2015/2016). The problem with this perspective is that the trees are way too random to discern any details in this format, I believe.
