#3Dprinting

2025-05-03

If you're using a 3D printer of any kind, I highly recommend @foosel 's #octoprint
It's such a useful piece of software and takes a big headache out of the #3Dprinting workflow (particularly so for older printers).
Also, it's totally free, so you have no excuse to not try it. I just made a voluntary donation to keep this great project going.

For May the 4th, I’ll be putting up a cute “knitted” lightsaber on MakerWorld, really quick and easy print #starwars #3dprinting #maythe4th

While I seem to have been successful at modifying the SAFC stand-alone tool to support Cura (which really probably wasn't done solely because nobody cared), I can't see any use for myself. The regular PLA already comes out pretty good and the high-speed one comes out with a very rough surface, both are very unimpressed by the flow modifications. Ironing on the other hand does much more. Well. Pull request submitted, case closed. *shrugs and gets some coffee and cake

#PowerBook 5xx rear feet: ✅

I first tried to print the TPU part lying but it's ugly, I'll attempt on the side now.

#3DPrinting #OpenSCAD cc @shyra

An original grey rotating foot and the prototypes in front of it, resembles a little foot with a hole in the ankle. The front version has an external TPU shell that's a little darker, since the original had 2 different plastics. The prototype installed on the internal frame, folded in. A screw over a washer holds it in place.Same, but it's been rotated and points upwards.

I'm glad I was able to repair the drying rack. It was quite an expensive one.

It's a real shame how they constructed it. It would have been much easier to repair if they'd used screws instead of riveting everything together.

And of course there is no replacement part. It's a good thing that #3DPrinting is a thing. 😎

I completed two repair projects this week using #FreeCAD:

  • A taillight‑to‑bicycle‑seat adapter
  • A replacement part for our clothes‑drying rack

A day late for #FreeCADFriday.
Model files are available on #Printables.

Cookiecad Witchcraft PETG. Prints really nicely, though IRL is not as purple as I was hoping.

Can’t have any print failures because this color doesn’t appear on their website anymore… #3DPrinting

Somewhat iridescent purple printed parts on the bed of a 3D printer. The parts appear crisp and clean.

Too bad that I didn't pay attention to the seam position. It still looks pretty nice, imho.

In the category "projects I didn't know I'd do today"..

This old cabinet hasn't had its keys for probably 15 years.
I've had these handls/knobs for about nine months meaning to replace the old locks.
They're a bit wonky, but so were the keyholes. Took a redisign on one of the inserts. They turned out to be very much not the same 😅

Today turned out to be the day for that! 🎉😊

The doors of a cabinet. One door has a metal key hole cover, the other one doesn't. Both doors are well worn. The locks taken out and next to them two 3d printed inserts of about the same shape, but without the mechanism and instead just a passthrough hole for a screw. Two 3d prints. One with its corners removed and parts of its geometry slightly shifted about. Two light coloured brass looking flowery handles. put where the keyholes used to be. The rest of the doors are still well worn.

My fun little music performance room continues to grow and improve. Added guitar wall hangers to match the vibe of the rest of the house (wizard/cottage core). Hanging some of the 3D printed guitars and my GIbson for easy reach. Also my 3D Printed Cancer Ribbon guitar and some recently made ukuleles. All surrounding my piano from 1898 that sounds like a bar room every time you play a note.

How to easily model curved functional parts in #OpenSCAD: 1. Take a picture of the profiles of the parts and draw their contours in #Inkscape, then save the file as an SVG; 2. Import all the SVG files into OpenSCAD and intersect the extruded profiles; and 3. Model the functional features accordingly. Happy #3Dprinting 😎

One of my patrons already 3D printed my 2025 Tiamat! It's only primed now but it's looking great so far!
