so thanks to #monsterdon 's next movie being an old 3D movie, i decided to look for lists of other 1950s 3D movies. i had no idea there were so many musicals and westerns that were shot in 3D! i'd only been aware of the horror and sci-fi films

I was reading the @daringfireball first-hand reporting on Apple's Vision Pro, and this line jumped out at me:
“ I don’t generally like 3D feature-length movies at all — I find myself not remembering them afterwards”
I have the exact same experience with 3D movies, but I thought I was the only one. When I explain the phenomenon to others, they usually just look puzzled. It's nice to see I'm not alone.

I saw Avatar 2 last night and have mixed feelings. It is an incredible cinematic experience in service of a 1940s pulp magazine plot. I enjoyed it for the wow factor and not much else.
If there is a sequel (seems probable) and if I live long enough to see it (possible), I will skip the 3D version. My eyes just don't see 3D movies in 3D and the glasses just make everything dim.
Going to see the new Avatar movie tonight. I didn't love the Hobbit at 48fps, it felt like an awkward framerate. But maybe Cameron's found some way to make it work. Too bad it's not in 120, that looked great for Gemini Man.
Either way I'm excited for a 3D visual thrill ride 😎
