🎙️ "Tumors in Dishes: New Opportunities for Personalized Medicine"

In her talk, Prof. Olayioye will explore how patient-derived tissue samples can be used to advance cancer treatment. She’ll share insights from the 3R-US team on developing human tumor models – often called “tumors in dishes” – and how they are applied in the lab to test new therapies. The talk will also highlight approaches like bioprinting, alternatives to animal testing, and cancer biotherapeutics designed to activate the immune system.

🎯 The goal: more personalized and more effective cancer therapies.

This is the third talk in our IRIS Insights series, which showcases interdisciplinary research from the IRIS community and provides a space for dialogue across fields.

Good example of what motivates my own research: pain is a topic of existential importance. To make progress with understanding pain, we still need animal experiments, which are ethically fraught. De las 3R a las 10R: La evolución de la economía circular

La economía circular ya no se limita solo a "reducir, reutilizar y reciclar".

Hoy, el modelo ha evolucionado hacia las 10R, un sistema más completo que impulsa la sostenibilidad desde el diseño hasta el descarte inteligente.

¿Por qué este cambio?

Las 3R tradicionales eran un buen inicio, pero la crisis ambiental exige estrategias más profundas.

Ahora, conceptos como rechazar (evitar lo innecesario), reparar (combatir la obsolescencia programada) y rediseñar (crear productos más duraderos) son clave.

La idea es prevenir residuos antes de generarlos, no solo gestionarlos.

Empresas y gobiernos ya aplican estas acciones.

Por ejemplo:

- Moda sostenible: Marcas que reutilizan textiles o remanufacturan prendas.

- Tecnología: Empresas que recuperan metales de dispositivos electrónicos.

- Alimentos: Supermercados que revaloran desperdicios como compost o biogás.

El reto está en adoptar estas 10R en la vida diaria: preferir productos reparables, apoyar el upcycling o exigir políticas de ecodiseño.

La economía circular ya no es solo reciclaje; es un cambio de mentalidad donde cada etapa del consumo cuenta y R3Foresta ya está comprometida a trabajar con las 10R.
