Agreed. Churches are in the public interest, BUT this is playing with fire. A better approach: any group that advocates in a partisan fashion should lose 501(c)(3) status. Hey, #legalquestions of mastodon— Can a #501c3 #nonprofit make donations mandatory for any reason? Trying to figure out if it’s not kosher or just a bit icky for a nonprofit to “require” a donation in return for use of space owned by the nonprofit. ETA: it might sound like I’m upset about being asked to donate and this is not the case; it’s phrased as a mandatory donation and is being used in a discriminatory manner.

@patrickleavy In US should be #501c3 but even that does not insure a profit fetish(ie Harvard University is a non-profit). If organization also sets up a governing trust that makes decisions regarding overall direction and purpose then easier to insure non-profit goals and mission retained.

Do I know any CPA's or tax pros?

I have contacted TWO local CPAs and I have nothing to show for it.

I dont think what I am asking is illegal. Its a legit question regarding #tax #law and maintaining 501c3 status and minimizing tax.

If I administer a #nonprofit that has title to a commercial building, can I lease half the building to an #LLC which I also run?

Would that jeopardize my #taxexemptstatus ?

Did you know that you can directly oppose the #HeritageFoundation?

As a #501c3 corporation, the Heritage Foundation is not allowed to participate in politics, let alone publish political manifestos.
